Feb 11 2009'Gigantic' Trailer and John Goodman in Gigantic Old Guy Glasses
Prepare for indie asphyxiation: Paul Dano is an awkward, subdued late-20s dude. Zooey Zeschanel is a classic Manic Pixie Dream Girl. Put them together (with an appropriate soundtrack) and we have quirky, unbearable romance!
However, as annoying as this has the potential to be, I'll give it a chance for two reasons:
1. I'm really, really pleased to see John Goodman making the transition to respected-comedian-turned-indie-actor (see: Bill Murray) instead of respected-comedian-turned-tragedy (see: Steve Martin). I didn't know if he'd ever fully escape the shadow of King Ralph.
2. I'm also really pleased to see Upright Citizen Brigade's Ian Roberts in absolutely anything, but particularly to see him delivering lines about black market Chinese babies being awesome.
Here's your trailer:
How about it?

Maybe she can redeem herself for "The Happening" - MAYBE.

Looks Good

Zooey Deschanel always plays the same character. I want her so badly.

Did anyone see zach galifianakis, cuse I'm pretty sure he was all up in that bus stop like two minutes in. God, what isn't he in? For that mater why isn't he in every thing?

I'll watch it. Eventually.

You speak of King Ralph as if it was a bad movie or something...
7. LBS - February 11, 2009 4:29 PM
Zach Galifianakis is in this too! Excellent.
8. mike - February 11, 2009 4:30 PM

I couldn't decide if it was Galifianakis or just a similar hobo character. Piles of hair all look alike.

John Goodman: +10 pt
Seemingly irrelevant and gratuitous back story of a 20 something single guy adopting a Chinese baby: -15pt
Comedic relief from UCB guy: level 3 wizard
My rating system has little to no logic but, did anyone see Smart People? That movie was absolutely terrible and this reminds me of that.

^That comes out to -2 sooo 2 thumbs down?

@11: Level 3 wizard is likely worth dozens, if not hundreds of experience points.
Also, you're welcome, iwatchstuff writer. My favorite part about your blog tends to be trailers... hint hint.

John Goodman will forever be Walter to me

Did that trailer just say that the film was "a truly original vision"? What 500 movies of the last decade did it not resemble in absolutely insufferable fashion? On the other hand, I would really like it if Zooey Deschanel would ask me to have sex with her.

Quirky just jumped the shark.

Gotta love that knockoff Little Miss Sunshine music to subliminally remind people who Paul Dano is.
17. sully - February 11, 2009 9:22 PM
So... I'm pretty sure that John Goodman is playing Frank Reynolds in this movie... anyone agree?

What a rip of off Devotchka's 'How It Ends' with the music

john goodman is awesome, but this is not really all that new - don't all of those coen bros. movies he did count for anything, indie cred-wise?
and despite having JG & zooey deschanel in it, "gigantic" looks lame as hell.
