Feb 27 2009Friday the 13th: Part 2???

friday-13th-teaser.jpg

I knew 30-year-old teenage guy should have stabbed Jason more times with the machete. Jason survived! And he's going to return for more murder in Friday the 13th: Part 2, which won't be a remake of the original Part 2 because the remake of Part 1 already compressed bits from several of the prior Friday the 13ths, including Part 2, into one movie. Are you following? Here's what the Hollywood Reporter says:

The villain who's defied death more often than Evil Knievel is making another appearance on the big screen. Sources saying that New Line and Platinum Dunes are moving forward on a new “Friday the 13th" and that Damian Shannon and Mark Swift, who wrote the recently released reboot, beginning work on a script for a new picture.

There's a catch, though.

Unlike the sophomore efforts of other franchises, the new “Friday” is expected to be not a sequel so much as a follow-up, those familiar with the project say. Jason Voorhees will be the villain, of course, but the new picture is expected to use elements of the original franchise more as a jumping-off point than as a template.

The reason? The reboot drew from the first four pictures in the “Friday” series, and producers are said not to be keen on the plot elements of the half-dozen movies that followed. And Marcus Nispel, who directed the latest film, is a possible but unlikely candidate to helm the “Friday” follow-up; the director is believed to be fielding offers for movies across other genres.

I'm not sure why the producers are so against using elements of the later sequels as inspiration for a second film. Good luck to the writer who has to come up with a better story than Jason rising from the grave, taking Manhattan, going to Hell, fighting Freddy Krueger, and ending up in the future, in space. How would you even avoid those elements?

Why on earth do people care so much about Jason to make a million freaking films about him, over and over again?

The world cannot rest until we are brought the perfect Friday the 13th movie? It's that great of a story? I would like to see an "exquisite corpse" version of a Jason movie, that would probably be more interesting.

They ruinned Jason more so in this movie than in any other movies thus far. I don't know why they want to destroy the character even more. It's sad; the death of something special.

@3 -- I'm confused. Ruined as in "destroyed him physically"? Or ruined as in "they did not live up to the source material"? Because if you mean the later, I say to you, have you seen "Friday the 13th 3-10"? I mean, "Takes Manhattan" was always m personal favorite, but it, in no way, shape, or form, could be considered "good".

Also, can you guys believe what Billy Ray Cyrus did to that kid who hacked into Miley's cellphone???

Jason X stole my heart

Speaking for the entire state of Louisiana, I can say that all of the dumb rednecks here for some reason actually appreciate the plot of the new '13th' movie.

Speaking for myself... you can't perfect the already perfect, and that which is perfect is Jason X.

I'd like to see Friday the 13th Part Deux. Old Jason is a hasbeen wannabe. Let's see something new!! And funny!!!!

haha see when you talked about the "friday" movies... i definitely thought the producers were taking a cue from ice cube.

Friday The 13th sucked. I feel bad for paying to see it.

The new Friday the 13th had everything the old ones did. U know that ur in for!

@5 -- LMAO dude

As long as we combine hell and space into Friday movies at some point, I'll be happy

I am a huge F-13 fan and I am NOT against remakes but for the love of gob get new writers and director for the next one! This one was horrible! It FAILED on basic parts of the formula (come on this isn't rocket science) and what it tried to add was just stupid and out of character.

EPIC FAIL

the remake was great! It killed all the other Fridays. The only ones that r worth seeing r Friday the 13th part 4 and the remake. If u liked freddy vs Jason,Jason goes to hell and Jason X then u r a FAG!

You gotta love the "Friday the 13th fans" who hated the new movie, even though it's exactly the same as the best instalments in the series, except made better.

I absolutely love the ''Friday The 13th'' movies! This remake, I thought, was really good, I really enjoyed it. This is no way a fail, some remakes are actually shit, but this was good, considering...

The worst Jason Voorhees movie, out of the ''Friday 13th'' series, has got to be ''Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday'', that, was complete bollacks. Made no sense whatsoever. I shall be looking forward to the next one :]

I am really tires of people say "this movie was horrible" or "it suck" or "it lacks the basic elements" or whatever. this movies has all the elements. 1 jason- big guy in hockey mask with a machete 2. teens 3. woods 4. boobies 5. lots of death. that's all that's required for this movie. they didnlt sit down and say "let's make a jason flick and win an oscar with it." you have to stop analizing the crap out of it, and just watch. this friday was awsome jason ran, he was aggresive, and the kills were great, and before anyone says I don't know what i'm talking about, i've seen everyone friday in the theater since they started making these films. and I hope they continue to do so.
