Jan 5 2009How is 'Where the Wild Things Are' So Sunsetty?
What I really want to see is how that beak-faced freak is going to look, but until I get that, this new shot from Spike Jonze's Where the Wild Things Are will have to do. What still impresses me most about everything I've seen from this production is that everything looks like was shot around sunset. How can you afford to shoot a whole film given only an hour of shooting light each day? Either Spike Jonze can stop the Earth's rotation (like Superman) or he's been granted access to our government's secret romance research facility, which includes a permanent sunset chamber. If it's the secret government romance lab access one, take me next time, Spike. I really want to sleep on the mile-long satin sheet covered in never-wilting rose petals.

Is that the same satin sheet that is magically long enough to cover a woman's chest but not a man's?

I don't know if I'd call spike jonze a beak faced freak per se.

A movie called Days of Heaven by Terrence Malick was shot almost entirely at 'magic hour' (won an Oscar). Nothing new.

magic hour happens twice a day...also, this may be shocking, but depending on where you are in the world/season, the length of magic hour is different.
and if you have the money you can fake it anyway with HMI and gels in tighter shots...
and like the last person said, days of heaven was shot entirely during magic hour by nestor alemendros....
or, OMG SPIKE JONZE IS A WIZARD_!@

Ha filming for an hour a day to get the sunset look? Of course they are! Why do you think this fucking movie has taken so GOD DAMN LONG to make!
Dont get me wrong...I wanna see this just as bad as the next person but come on...you start to look pretty lame when you take 10 years to make a fucking movie. This is another Duke Nukem Forever...

re-watch Full Metal Jacket - most of the climax is shot at magic hour. it's f'ing beautiful, but took weeks if not months to shoot.
