Jan 22 2009Dakota Fanning's Overwhelming Paleness Joining Robert Pattinson's Overwhelming Paleness?

E! Online is reporting that Dakota Fanning is in negotiations to star alongside Robert Pattinson (vampire) and Kristen Stewart (human) in New Moon (that's the Twilight sequel, for those of you who don't READ teen girl vampire romance):

I can exclusively report that the 14-year-old child star—she turns 15 on Feb. 23—is in talks to play Jane opposite Robert Pattinson & Co. in New Moon, the upcoming sequel to box office megahit Twilight.

“There were no auditions,” a source reveals. “They just offered it to her outright, and now they’re in negotiations. They’ve been going back and forth.”

Jane is a member of Italy’s Volturi, the most deadly group of bloodsucking killers in author Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling series.

In the casting notice we got our hands on earlier this month, Jane is described as a petite blonde with a “Botticelli angel-like face…[and] crimson irises.” While fellow Volturi guards Demetri & Felix “are three times the size of her, they are terrified of her,” the casting notice reads.

I don't know anything about Twilight aside from how often the vampire guy menacingly stares, but I thought a large part of the reason the studio was loving this series was that its fan base is so insane that they can cast whoever they want, regardless of notoriety or talent, and everyone will still see it, giving the films a huge profit margin. It seems pointless to cast a pricey, acclaimed actress when dubbing a voice over a drawing of Dracula with eyelashes would bring in the same box office numbers. And won't the weight of prosthetic fangs added to her head make her neck vertebrae telescope? Anyone more informed about Twilight/physics have some thoughts on this?

She has ceased being cute and started being creepy.

she's 15? she looks like she's 10!

she's 15? she looks like she's 10!

Well, she should be okay, since the Twilight vampire species don't have noticeable fangs, just frighteningly sharp and venomous and normal looking teeth. She'll good with the mediocre sparkle effect. i hope her windchime noise timed with the sparkle effect will be slightly more sinister.

How can a kid that young have such yellow teeth?

Yeah, I think she'd be a good Jane.

Jesus on a pink pogo stick. I really despise her acting, but nobody should be subjected to being cast in a Twilight film :(

I really really do hope she doesnt do another rape scene.

I heard the vampires sparkle so that's something new for you.

wow... what a perfect way to turn twilight into even MORE of a teeny-bopper movie. I love dakota, think she's adorable and a great actress- but twilight does not need a big name teen. when is summit gonna WAKE UP and realize that twilight doesn't have to be a young teen movie? the books are good enough that there are MILLIONS of people outside of the 'typical demographic' in love with the stories. Plus.. we have MONEY... cater to us!!
pass my message along to the big wigs at summit. if they listen to me, they will make even more MILLIONS with New MOon and give me ROB PATTINSON as my reward!

I don't think it matters that they're getting a "big name" teen...she fits the description of Jane perfectly. And she has the ability to be creepy enough to play the character. I really do think she's a good fit and I'm definitely not a "teeny-bopper."

I was hoping it would be her as Jane. She's perfect, even if she is still so little.

No nobody has fangs in Twilight!!! Read the books and you'll know all.

Have they picked anyone else for this movie? Anybody know?

Dakota fanning is an excellent actress, especially given her young age.

But hey, Twilight blows so who cares.

man, you got my hopes up by tagging kristen bell in this entry.

I've read the twilight books and I saw the movie. I wasn't disappointed with movie, and honestly, I think she'll be good for the part. They just need to whiten her teeth a bit.

I am a rabid twi-hard fan. Fear not! I can clear up your misconceptions!
*clears throat*
The Vampire in the Meyer books do not actually have fangs, so no fear, Dakota’s head and neck vertebra are safe. :)
She would be a decent Jane, IMO. The role is VERY small, however, so I don't see why they would need such an accomplished actor. I like the fact that the first film was an ensemble of nearly-no-name-actors with only a few episodes of Gossip Girl and some modeling jobs under their belts. Their acting was decent and they weren't recognizable from other roles, which makes the willing suspension of disbelief easier.

I'm sure she'll be a fine Jane.

The only time I was ever worried about the casting was when I heard Vanessa Hudgens was going to be Leah.
But she's not, so it's all okay :)

They should be careful casting Dakota Fanning for New Moon, she might steal the show

She's too mainstream and young. Plus, she tries to be cute but is annoying.
Also I think she'd just look dumb in the movie. Although she 'd be WAY better than Vanessa Anne Hudgens as Leah, that would just be... WRONG!!! ugh!

dakota is an amazing actress...better then what vanessa hudgens will be when she plays leah clearwater....ugh...this could spoil the new movie...but i shall watch it anyways

acually they said jane made a botticelli angel look like a gargoyle! get it right ppl

ALL HATERRS !!!GETT OVERR YOUR SELVES YOU ARE ALL JEALOUS THAT SHEE GETSS TO LOOKA T THE HOTESST GUYS ON THE PLANETT ALL DAY LONGG
