Jan 19 2009'500 Days of Summer' Trailer Has Me Looking Forward to Next Break-Up
Maybe the voice of Lt. Frank Drebin repeating the words "500 days of" is having a hypnotizing effect on me, but I think this trailer for 500 Days of Summer makes it look like just the kind of movie I want to sob over after a heart-wrenching break-up. Right after she gives me back all the t-shirts she'd borrowed, I'll pop this in the DVD player, follow it up with Eternal Sunshine for the Spotless Mind, then drunkenly pass out reading Jeffrey Brown comics. It will be great until I wake up and realize: apparently I called her last night?
Leslie Nielsen should narrate everything that Morgan Freeman isn't already narrating.

Joseph Gordon-Levitt was in Third Rock until 2001. And since then he's been in Brick, MIracle at St. Anna, The Lookout, and is going to be in GI Joe this year.

NOT SURE IF I LIKE THIS...
On the positives:
1) LESLIE NEILSON NARRATING! FUCKING AWESOME!
2) Zooey "Gooey" Deschanel oozing cuteness.
3) Cobra Commander's in it.
4) Brackets around numbers.
5) Repeatedly bludgeoning my ears with the title in a manner similar to a fun French New Wave trailer!
6) CARTOON BIRD!?!?!
Negatives:
1) Pretentious indie rock bludgeoning my ears as title is repeated ad nauseum and blocking out the sweet sound of Neilson's voice.
2) the color title thing plays off like a goofy indie riff on a Godard film trailer, without the hotness of Bardot.
3) set in LA, and about love (because we all know thats impossible in LA)
4) Oragami Birds (they killed my father)
5) Its like an indie rock combo of Before Sunrise and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - on their own, great, but like combining nitroglycerine with hipster hair gel and rubbing vigourously until it explodes in my face.
6) Unnecessary arm tatoos.

The movie looks cute, but the voice over is just plain weird.
It's like if Pikachu did the voice over for "An Inconvenient Truth"- it would be just wrong.

im a huge zooey deschanel fan, i love her music, she's my soulmate.
but #14 pretty much explained why it wasn't that great of a TRAILER. that doesn't mean anything, the movie could be great. But the trailer just kinda annoyed me more than anythign.

Joseph = great actor. Loved Brick. Zooey is beautiful, i loved her singing in Elf. Looks like a movie i would like to take my girlfriend to and walk away satisfied in not watching a cheesy chick flick.

I love Zooey Deschanel and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, but this trailer just screams HEY LOOK QUIRKY WHITE TWENTY-SOMETHINGS SET TO INDIE MUSIC. I mean, we all know that vaguely nerdy yet oh-so-funky young people are the best subjects for deep and fascinating storytelling (sarcasm), but let's do something a bit different, perhaps?

I hated the voice on that trailer - was that leslie nielson really? it was awful.

Hey 33, shut up -- that's my family you're talking about there. Leslie Nielsen has an amazing voice, and I think it's perfect for this movie. He's done voiceovers for commercials, children's TV shows, and all kinds of projects, and that's just because of his voice! Not to mention he's a ridiculously talented actor. Don't give up on the narration just yet, that's all I'm saying.

Wow, can we stop doing this story line? The unbelievably attractive 'indie' girl hooks up with the nerdy white guy and changes his life. Thrilling. It's sad because I love Zooey.
