Dec 8 2008'Twilight' Director Not Returning for 'New Moon' (which is the name of the sequel, I hear)

Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the recent hit Twilight, has officially announced they will be moving ahead with the sequel, New Moon, without director Catherine Hardwicke. From Variety:

Summit Entertainment has wasted no time moving ahead with the next installment in Stephenie Meyer's bestselling "Twilight" series, "New Moon." But in an unusual move after the successful launch of a franchise that has already generated $138.6 million, the upstart distrib is not bringing director Catherine Hardwicke back to direct the picture. Summit and Hardwicke cite Summit's wish to rush the movie into production as one reason for their split. Summit wants to release the picture, which will demand substantial CGI work, by the end of 2009 or the start of 2010. A former production designer, Hardwicke wanted more prep time.

"Twilight" scripter Melissa Rosenberg handed in a draft of "New Moon" the weekend that "Twilight" opened. Hardwicke wanted more time to work on it; Summit announced it was going ahead with "New Moon" on November 22, with no director attached. Negotiations lasted two weeks before Hardwicke formally passed on the film Saturday.

Wow, Summit is acting as if Twilight had questionable production values and tepid reviews and its success was based entirely on its prior name value and had nothing to do with the satisfactory-at-best direction. Who's going to repeatedly tell vampire boyfriend to stare intensely now?

This is GOOD news. I was 'forced' to see this (I went as I was promised certain favours by my wife afterwards) and the direction and editing were REALLY bad. The movie was okay...but Kristen Stewart made it tolerable. I'd like to bang her all day long.

OMG! Like I would totally cry about this stuff. OMG! Twilight was such an awesome movie. Like people are so judgmental and stuff.

I don't blame him, he doesn't want to make another piece of shit

She. The director was a she.

I finally went to see it last week. I wasn't completely disappointed but it could have been handled a lot better. Hopefully the next director will do better, especially with the introduction of the new characters.

complete crap. such a cheese movie. just bunch of teenie girls drooling over a guy that looks super fucking loaded all he time. i think he found that 2700 year old weed and smoked it all. douche bag

Maybe we can replace vampire-boy staring with fvampire-boy and his whore getting his ass kicked by chuck norris. that would be a good way to spend $10

Oh excellent. The movie was quite good, but mainly due to its adherence to the source material, not thanks to the direction. If they get a good director and acting coach, maybe Bella won't be such a cypher. Of course, whoever they get had better continue sticking to the source material.

I read the book last summer and enjoyed it. The movie stuck to the book's plot line, but it just sucked. I don't really know how else to describe it.
Hopefully they will get a much better director.

everyone blahs director for bad money or praises them when its good. ya they help but there not the writers. if bad writen movie it will blow. comeon no matter what these movies will blow unless they get a bigger budget.

I just finished reading the book and I think it was much better than the movie. If the writers had put more of the juicy stuff into the movie, like there was in the book it would have been a whole lot better. Like for example, in the book they spent a lot more time with each other than in the movie (Bella & Edward). After watching the movie I felt there was something that the writer left out which complied me to read the book. I really hope that they put more of what makes the book in good into the next movie. The other thing I would love to see more of is the romance scenes. I did like the movie though!!!

i bet they're going to make it as cheesy and mormon-ish as the books... the story is pretty good, but stephanie meyer is the shittiest writer in history!

i just finished the last book (after i read the first 3 out of curiosity) and laughed all the way through!

i wont spoil it, but it's the creepiest, weirdest, funniest most fucked up thing i've ever read.

I actually hated until I saw the movie, which has vampires playing baseball. Let me repeat. Vampires. Playing baseball. Also, there's a scene with a chick in a fur coat walking in slow-mo to a Radiohead song. Plus the character of the dad is pretty hilarious. But you know, just because the books are retarded, and the fans are unbearable, let's all jump the gun and decide that it sucks no matter what, especially without making out own judgment. The film was decent. The awful parts are almost all Edward complaining about how misunderstood and whispering sweet nothings into Bella's ear after having just met her. This is supplemented by some sort of good humor and a lot of kick ass but pointless fighting. But, let's just go ahead and say that it's impossible that any second of it was in any way good. Because that's nothing like the Twilight fans deciding that it's great no matter what. Right...?

the book is better than the movie. and that makes the movie really REALLY bad,
