From Empire Magazine, here's the first look at Taylor Kitsch as the cajun, energized playing card-throwing hero Gambit in Wolverine. You can really see the intense thought that went into the casting and wardrobe: "Just get some shady but good-looking dude with long hair, let him grow a day of stubble, boom. There you have it. Gambit. Wait, Gambit is also typically portrayed with red eyes, and wearing a fuschia and black spandex bodysuit, trenchcoat, weird metallic collar thing and earless black fabric head adornment? Yikes. Give ours a purple button-up and a velvet vest. Done. Next."
I'm telling you, movie producers, just make the characters look exactly like the comic. That's practically all that will keep the fans happy. Some costumes may seem ludicrous or even impossible in the real world, but that can be glossed over using a Will Smith-style turn to the camera and the line, "I make this look good."

Thats something i never understood, what makes them think their costume design ideas are better than the comic book ones that have stood up for decades?

Well some of the costumes would look ridiculous in real life. I understand as long as the don't go far from the look. Gambit didn't always have that outfit anyways. The one thing I'm pretty sure he always had was the trenchcoat. If theyget rid of that I will be angry. About the eyes mabye they will becime red when he uses his powers. Remeber they aret rying to do a real world type of thing. In the real world he would be studied out the wazoo to figure out his ed eyes.

Hate to geek out on you guys but this movie is way before the xmen were formed and before deadpool got his face screwed up and while gambit was still a petty thief.

This movie has promising cast and characters... but in know i will more than likely be disappointed. This picture of Gambit is just the 3rd in a long line of upcoming disappointments. I hope Ryan does a good job playing Deadpool. Deadpool was one of my favorite characters so i am glad they are bringing him in. I thought they were integrating the Ultimate X-Men universe into the films? So where is Night Crawler on the Weapon-X list?

I think most of you are forgetting this is the movie world. Gambit still has his powers, a trenchcoat, staff, and playing cards. (It shows them all in the trailer). We should stop complaining (no one listens anyway), and just hope to god that his his name is still Remy LeBeu....

Actually, I agree that Gerard Depardieu circa 1973 would look like a fantastic Gambit.
The trenchcoat must be in the movie. That is key to the Gambit look.

Wow...he looks more like the joker before his cheecks got cut up. Seriously movie maker men? Are you fuckers on crack? "Man the third X-Men movie was a complete flop because it didn't make any sense or follow the comic at all. Should we try and make the Wolverine movie at least look more like the comic? HA! Fuck no. Just give him a purple shirt and a leather jacket. Thats close enough for me." He's supposed to of been abandoned at birth because of his RED GLOWING EYES, and then kidnapped by thieves who train him. Also, when the hell was gambit part of weapon x? God i hate comic book movies.

When I first saw the X-Men trailers way back one I said "I can't see tis, their costumes aren't fucking yellow and blue. And where the fuck is Gambit?"

Well, it´s not that i´m not becoming disappointed over time with this movie, but at least this issue is just a matter of clothing and some CG in his eyes, how about that cosmic fart they called Galactus in Rise of the Silver Surfer.
