Dec 1 2008First Look at Depp and Bale as: 'Public Enemies'

public-enemies-depp-bale.jpg

Empire has the first look at Johnny Depp and Christian Bale as John Dillinger and lawman Melvin Purvis in Michael Mann's Public Enemies. Based on the images, here's my idea for the trailer narration:

One is a criminal gang leader; the other, an FBI agent. In their apartment they're best friends, but on the street they're about to kill each other. (Boi-yoi-yoi-yoing!) Johnny Depp and Christian Bale are: Public Enemies. (SPLAT!)

How about it, Michael Mann? What it lacks in gravitas it makes up for in spring sound effects.

yay I can't wait for this movie.. but I want a trailer, damnit

Bale would make a better Dillinger. Depp belongs nowhere near this genre...

Yes. I am pleased with this.

@2.... Depp is a great actor... even when the films he's in are bad. He'll do just fine...

I think this will be a great film. Two dedicated delivering actors...who are fine as hell!

Oh, so it's Heat, but with Tommy guns.

A man as cool as Bruse willis

I really hate these people talking about the celebrities or rich men joined the famous sugar daddy and sugar baby service !!!.{sugarm ing le . c o m}. Could

you people please have a break??

@2: Um, have you not seen "Donnie Brasco"?

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. :)

i love bale, but fuck him and depp. michael mann is either going to deliver a masterpiece or not. thats how easy it is. it ll either be great like collateral or it ll fail.

This just looks like Bale and Depp doing their best Michael Corleone impressions, regardless of the appropriateness or lack thereof.

Fish, at first glance you appeared to be putting us onto a good movie. However, you neglected to mention it also has Channing Tatum.

Sorry to pop your bubbles--that haven't even yet seen a trailer, but this film (which I screened the working copy of a few days ago) is not all that great, mostly confusing, and unless they cut a large amount (currently runs 2 hr 40 min) will be average at best. Depp (sadly) did not get into a believable character (like in Brasco) and it's mix of love-story & FBI and Mafia out to get Dillinger--come off as a directionless film. But, all that said, they could edit it and make it a little better. (I think Robert Downey Jr would have killed the role that Depp slept through).
