Dec 9 2008First Look at 'Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs'
Sony has released the first image from their adaptation of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and it is full of pastel iced cream. What do you guys think? I'm kind of liking the vaguely clay-like appearance, but I think I'd like the guy's character design more if it were less blatantly a youthful Inspector Gadget with roots for hair:

Gadget seems alright with the issue, and impressed with my Photoshop finesse.

I can't decide what was funnier: Inspector Gadget with roots for hair or the guy hitting some chick up for her number in the comments.

That was my favorite book as a kid and the illustrations are really dark almost Edward Gorey-ish, this is total crap.

I think you just ruined the movie for me.
Everytime i'm gonna see that character i'm gonna think inspector gadget, and i hate that guy >.<
on another note, it could be and interesting movie from what i've seen and heard.

Yes @ 3 - the book is infinitely more interesting-looking than this generic Pixar-lookin' crap.

They've ruined my favourite children's book. The story was fine but the illustration work was stunning. this is terrible. *sigh*

Yeah, balls to the animation here, but points for your little photoshop diddly.

Double yes @ 3. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs is not a comedy, it's not candy-colored, and it doesn't have hipster-looking main characters. Fuck this noise.

lol at Alena's robotic grassroots support. I FKN LOVED THIS BOOK. It was about food everywhere! I'm sooo hungry

I would like to see more before passing judgement, but the original illustrations were what engrained the book into my memory and I was hoping they would stay true to that. Hopefully the storyline, characters, and animation will make up for this visual 'update'.

this was my favorite book as a child. now it reminds me of a rugrats inspector gadget crossover episode. not cool.

I feel about this the same way I feel about the Coraline adaptation,th:ough much more mildly:
I don't mind the animation, but FUCK YOU THAT IS NOT HOW THE BOOK IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK/THE MOOD IT IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE ARRRGH.
Also, lollercaust over the Inspector gadget pic. I thought it looked like Claymation John Cusack.
