Dec 4 2008'Che' Poster, Trailer, Revolutionary

For a limited time, IFC will be releasing the two parts of Steven Soderbergh's Che Guevara biopic, The Argentine and Guerilla, as a single film appropriately entitled Che. To promote the event, they've released a poster that makes it seem like Che is a militant, 200-foot giant crushing remote villages beneath his feet. The trailer shows this is not the case:

You can tell Benicio Del Toro could do a great voice for Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2.

I like his look, maybe they could put it on a t shirt or something.

He was a butcher, funny how people treat him so differently.

@2 agreed.

strange how someone can personally kill so many women and children and yet be regarded by as some sort of hero.

I have no idea who this is

He was a butcher, just like Napolean, Atilla, Alexander, and a thousand men behind him. I hope this film is what it should be; no judgements, just history.

Frankly, I'm surprised they took this long to crank out this movie. The Che cult has been going on for quite some time, with those dumb-ass T-shirts that these dumb-ass kids wear, not having a slightest clue about what a murderous thug Che was in real life. And he was Castro's butt-buddy.

This is the chapter of the Obama, folks. Expect much more of this self-congratulatory, hard-left jerkoff in the years to come.

"To promote the event, they've released a poster that makes it seem like Che is a militant, 200-foot giant crushing remote villages beneath his feet."

That's precisely what he was, and an executioner among many other terrible things.

Is it just me, or does the placement of the star on the poster not look as if he has some sort of bellybutton nipple that they had to censor out...?

Yeah, let's not judge him, mattk, or 'asshat' as ye shall now be known. He murdered hundreds of people, women and children included, and embraced the most psycopathic version of marxism possible. The left has never met a tryant or mass-murdering thug they didn't love.

I'd rather watch 'Medellin' than this steaming turd.

I always wondered who that guy on the t-shirts was (although never enough to actually look it up) I bet he's spinning in his swallow grave with all the merchandise his image has sold over the years.

I did some reading on this guy in Wikipedia and have come to the conclusion that anybody who bought and wore one his shirts is probably an idiot and has no real idea who he is or what he stood for. Especially when I seen them walking around a mall.

Wow, talk about knee-jerk reactions. A whole bunch of steaming-turd sob-story McCain fans in these parts, huh?

Funny how when it's *our* (read: American) revolution that's being filmed or written about, those Great White Founding Fathers are portrayed as noble and godlike. When the truth of the matter is that the American Revolution was hardly a bloodless velvet revolution.

I doubt that Soderbergh, like any other Che biographer, is going to paint the man as a saint. A larger-than-life figure? Sure. Because he was.

As for that "psychopathic version of Marxism"? Can you breathe way up there on your high horse?

Good to see the hatemongers that worship the previous administration in all it's dumbfounded glory and need for greed are still active and spewing their filth across the world in another half assed attempt to discredit an individual that didn't conform to a certain mentality you stupid losers seem to think is freedom. If freedom means bending over and taking it in the ass like you boys like so much, then I want no part of it. Bring me Che any day and all his "evil" doings that were a singular attempt to preserve freedom instead of blind obedience to an idiot that doesn't even care about this country...
But to speak on the same level as all these others here in the comments section, it's probably just the latin influence and their misguided belief that lying, cheating and stealing is the proper way to live. Che is a god by them standards!

fuck che.

Yea, the guy almost started WWIII, he's great!

I seldom say things on a sophomoric level but go piss yourselves you terrorist loving liberal assclowns! You won't be happy until this country is in a state of anarchy.

Comparing our founding fathers to this murderous scumbag is absurd.

#11-12:

I haven't voted Republican for over a decade, you morons.

But let me guess... the both of you are brainless drones who buzz around the Daily Kos and the Huffingtonpost, mindlessly mouthing the talking points from the DNC, and your messiah and God, Obama.

You are incapable of having any independent thought, and have the exact same beliefs and opinions of hundreds of thousands of other drones. But then you have temerity to criticize the group-think of "the other side" of our contrived political dichotomy.

Enjoy your corporate-produced silk-screened T-shirts, dolts. You actually have an important function to your overlords. Lenin called people like you "useful idiots".

my nickname has nothing to do with this ass.

but when will they focus on his womanizing attributes and his racist views. his self conflicts make a better movie than a glory movie. thats why motorcycle diaries was lame!

on the part where they ask him, how does it feel to be a symbol. they should have flashed, urban outfitters up here at northpark mall, the ritsy side of dallas, tx. with all them 13 year old girls wearing his face.

Heheh, I thought he actually was a 200-foot giant crushing remote villages beneath his feet. :o) But yeah, not a good guy to glorify, hope this movie doesn't do that. See "Lost City" for some of what Che can be rememberd for.

Finally! Now college students all over the country can finally know who's on their shirts! Che did do some freedom fighting, helped some, killed others many people benefited from his actions and just as many died. Personally, I dislike him because of his role in Cuba... "Economista? I thought you said Communista!". That being said, "Chasing Che" is a pretty good book about an author retracing Che's trip through South America on a motorcycle. Regardless of your feelings on the guy, the book is a great read. (give a copy to the college student in your life who has a shirt with "some guy" on it)

What the freaking fuck does Obama have to do with this movie or Che Guevara?

Well well well... nice to see that people who live in the same country who voted for bush TWICE speak so freely of someone you know nothing about, calling him a murderer and a butcher, you disgust me. At least Ernesto Guevara fought for what he believed in and did not kill thousands of people to get a piece of that nice petroleum they have in the middle east. Pick up a fucking history book, read about him, watch the movie if you feel like it, but don't just speak about somebody reproducing what you probably heard from some other imperialistic fuck. Fuck your imperialism you closed minded fucks.
And to those who think he had a close relationship with Castro, he did share his political views but not the way to execute them. Guevara was a doctor and he used to treat injured soldiers and even prisioners, he would not condone torture or execution and would even intervene and go against castro's wishes to avoid executions. That is why castro left him to die in La Higuera, Castro sent him there knowing what would happen, Cuba was not big enough for them both and he got rid of him.
Instruct yourselves glorified apes, it won't hurt. Here in america latina would be much appreciated.

RIGHT ON LORI, the only one with some sence

read and then drop your comments, you white pieces of bread

long live ERNESTO 'che' GUEVARA.

the thing about those shirts.. they just look cool. doesnt matter who the fuck the face of the person is on the shirt.

Lori, thanks! you know me better than I do!

And the poster designer couldn't be bothered to keep the trigger on the rifle...

HAHAHAHAH!! i can't believe how many idiot thumb-suckers clinging to the last 8 years are trying to pin CHE on OBAMA.

hey assholes, come back on Jan. 20th when obama is PRESIDENT. until then, go fuck yourselves and look at what's happened since bush took office.

let's see: 9/11, afghanistan, iraq, katrina, increased global warming, global economic meltdown, and complete loss of moral authority in the world.

HECKUVA JOB THERE GEORGIE.

and for people who bitch about how young people came out to vote this year, don't blame them. blame the flaming incompetent idiot who's run the country and the incompetent idiot who ran one of the worst campaigns in history while picking perhaps one of the most disastrous VP candidate in history.

yea...and 53% of the country disagrees iwth you. you got slaughtered. just shut up and take it like a man.

@23, Glad to see I wasn't the only person who noticed the missing trigger.

As for the rest of you...Shut the fuck up with politics already. I thought this was a website about movies.

Idiots.
Look at all of you sitting in your little opulence. Especially the Che Supporters and especially the morons who brought race into the mix. Hey dummies, Che was white too. Latino White. Europeans are white. If you meant English descent say that...asshats.

But just look at you. Haev any of you struggled or faced real hardship? I haven't but i know the difference and I know history.

Che loved to kill. He loved conflict and he got great pleasure in hurting people.
He also was a racists, considered blacks to be inferior, jews to be scum and asians to be ants.

He had little desire to actually run government. see the problem with so called revolutionaries or freedom fighters is that when they win they have no fucking idea about how to lead or rule.
At least the founding fathers of the US knew what governance was about. Che was, quoting the Dark KNight here, a mad dog, who chases a car and when he catches it doesn't know what to do with it.
So next time you revere a great revolutionary over a Latte at Starbucks, think back, does he deserve that or are you just bored with your life?
idiots

Look guys, can't we just agree that BOTH Che and Bush are fuckwits who are personally responsible for the murder of thousands of people? Left, Right... the corpses don't care.

Those who think they know who Che was from reading Wikipedia are the real retards.

Che was a learned man on his way to begin a career as a Doctor. In his travels though, he saw the poverty and oppression that Capitalist were subjecting his Countrymen too. He found the starvation and neglect so revolting that he, well revolted. Not such a bad thing in my book!

As for the USA. You exterminated entire races. The greatest genocide ever committed was done by the USA. So fuck you and your righteous gay bashing retards. If I could execute you, I would. It would be both a mercy killing as well as a service to all mankind. GO FUCK OFF!

I think the funniest thing about this is the the left can't wait to compare a guy like this to George Bush, and the right can't wait to link him to Obama. Let's throw Hitler in there, just for fun!
Really tho, it's not a relative issue. Just because you think Bush or Obama is evil, doesn't make someone else, more or less evil. It's kind of a stupid argument.
The movie looks good. Well made at least. I doubt I'll agree with it. I think Mr.Guevera met an end far better than he deserved. He was a monster, but you're right, he does look great on a t-shirt. So what do I know?

Stupid Internet

hey, i just wanted to say to the iws writer - thanks for using you tube for the majority of the videos again. trailer addict was always a piece of shit for me.

As for the USA. You exterminated entire races. The greatest genocide ever committed was done by the USA. So fuck you and your righteous gay bashing retards. If I could execute you, I would. It would be both a mercy killing as well as a service to all mankind. GO FUCK OFF!

I would love to know how the USA committed the greatest genocide ever?? I would hand it over to either Stalin and the Commies or Mao and the Commies...wait...im seeing a pattern here....
Pal you are a fucking idiot.

@ Joe the Plumber #24

Increased global warming? WHy don't YOU look at what is going on instead of reading biased publications. DO you realize that Gore is pushing 'Carbon Credits" to offset your carbon footprint? Guess who sells them? GORES COMPANY. Its all a ploy to make more money and more government. Bush is far, far, FAR, FAR from even resembling perfect, but try not to blame things that arent happening on him.

@22
So if a hitler t-shirt looks cool, we should start selling those to stupid teenagers? I guess why not? We already Glorify Mao and Che...

I wonder if the Imperialist who judge and condemn Che and Fidel even know what conditions were like in Cuba in the first half of the 20th century. Say what they will but Che & Fidel landed in Cuba with about 18 armed men and took over the country. Hasta la Victoria Siempre!

#26
Where the hell did you get that 'Che loved hurting people?! Are you kidding me?! Read a damn book. You kids need to quit looking at Wikipedia and thinking its gospel. He was a damn doctor.
Wow, alot of misinformtion on here. Everyone seems to have an opinion on it, educated or not.

Wow, you blind ass motherfuckers. You guys will come up with an excuse for anything Bush does. I'm done with this conversation. Have fun driving your American made pick up trucks to your next clan meeting. White power, right?

@31: I'm pretty sure they're referring to the indigenous peoples of what became the United States, Mexico, and the Carribbean which actually did mostly wipe out many many entire tribes as opposed to a drought and famine that occurred in China (so wait, now Mao was controlling the weather?). Did you know that the settlers gave the Native Americans blankets with small pox in them? Aren't we proud of our country?

Genocide is the destruction of an entire race. I'm pretty sure there are still a whole lot of Russians and Chinese out there. What's the percentage of indigenous peoples in the U.S. these days? And also, for extra credit, what are their living conditions like compared to, say, yours.

I have a question! How can anyone compare George W. Bush to any real warrior (good or evil). While his contemporaries were in Viet Nam He Was Cheerleading for Yale. Thanks for you support George. Che was neither a god or a demon, he was just a man. And wether you love him or hate him, He was a man who lived for and died for what he believed in. I have meet few people who will even do what they say they will do, let alone live and die for what they believe. p.s. I'm with mattk on his hopes for the film;no judgments, just history

#31 Jeff: "I would love to know how the USA committed the greatest genocide ever?? I would hand it over to either Stalin and the Commies or Mao and the Commies...wait...im seeing a pattern here...."

The Native American Genocide is considered among the worst atrocities ever wrought in a civilized society. Not only were the Native Americans tortured, killed and relocated indiscriminately, people have forgotten their plight almost entirely. Over 100 million were killed for over 500 years of genocide. The Chinese Genocide? What genocide did Mao create? The Soviet killings were not as a result of Marxist ideals; it far from it. One can't blame Communism for Stalin's power hoarding, psychopathic, tyrannical regime. Speaking of tyranny, isn't that what causes the most genocide? Hitler, Ottomans, Various Sub-Saharan disturbances...

What is with "commie" hating? Did I travel into some alternate version of the 1950's with the internet? Are people really still afraid of the "threat of Communism" to our Democratic lifestyle? Yikes. I thought terrorists were the new "commies."

Kill 'em all, let God sort 'em out; am I right?

Amanita, you are so on! As I understand it there are 371 broken treaties between the Native Americans and the US government (most for the love of gold & silver). It does seem that the "Commie Haters" don't know that the 'Cold War' has been over for several years now. I can also appreciate the quote from Arnald Amalaricus, Abbot of Citeaux. I believe that it is the Batista supporters[many of which are now in Floria] who perpetrate this inaccurate concept of genocide. Batista was wisked out of Cuba by his American Mafia pals and those(that they left behind) who participated in his illegal regime were tried for their crimes against the Cuba people and were executed. It is likely that some were executed unjustly (just like at Nuremberg), that still does not denote genocide. p.s. Don't the 'commie haters' seem a bit foul mouthed

Seamos como el CHE, patria o muerte!

I love how we are pick-and-choosing our pet genocides in order to smear "the other side". I got news for you retards - ALL GENOCIDES ARE BAD. AND WE ARE ALL GUILTY.

But I'll throw this out there - more people have suffered and died under communism than anything else. Stalin actually murdered more people than Hitler (but shhhhhhhhhhh... it's okay because he was communist).

Morons.

I would like to see the numbers that back up more people dying under communism than capitalism/capitalist imperialism. A lot of the famine in communist countries was caused by the capitalist countries walling them off and refusing to trade. And, at times, the United States has even gone so far as to sabotage the sugarcane fields in Cuba. Read Rogue State.

It's easy to make unfounded statements that back up your cause, isn't it?

Let me guess... you're one of these typical liberal teacher wack-jobs that brainwash your students.

Okay... let's start with Stalin. Many millions (perhaps tens of millions) dead.

Try to explain that away, "teacher".

Mr. Jones, Stalin was a despot, a tyrant, and a power-hungry sociopath. There can be no doubt of this.

Now Mr. Jones, If 100 million Native Americans, Six million jews, and countless other lives lost to the likes of the POTUS, Hitler, Idi Amin and Slobodan Milosevic, do we blame Democracy? After all, these were all elected officials...

It's incoherent to blame a political philosophy for these wrong-doings. These deaths are the works of individuals and their political machines.

Amanita, Thank you, my words exactly.

I didn't say what Stalin did was OK. I'm just saying it's pretty likely that an actual, functioning capitalist system has killed more people with their imperialism (IE, the native americans, IE, carving up Africa so that warring tribes were deemed to be the same peoples by Europeans) than any failed attempt at communism has to date.

We can probably agree that Hitler was insane, but he was allowed to remain in power by a functioning capitalist system. But what about Hiroshima and Nagasaki? What about dropping those bombs on Japan?

And trust me, as an Algebra teacher, you bet I spend all my time talking about Che, Stalin, and other political figures that have absolutely nothing to do with the slope of a line. But way to jump to conclusions.

"way to jump to conclusions" that leftist wingnuts like you have completely infested our academia? So you never discussed politics in class? I find that extremely difficult to believe. You liberals are all the same - you can't keep your damned mouths shut, especially when you have a captive audience. It's very important for you to brainwash these kids before they have a chance to form an independent opinion.

"It's incoherent to blame a political philosophy for these wrong-doings." What part of Amanita's statement are you having difficulty understanding? She's not supporting you, jackass. You can't claim she's supporting you and then go off on yet another anti-"imperialist" rant.

Here's a formula for you:

Idiot + Bankrupted Political Philosophy = Modern Liberal

I'm male (Amanitas are a kind of mushroom and a symbol of the stupidity of our anti-drug culture). I can't make, and don't want to make claims endorsing any one political system, because as far as I can tell, no system works. We allow ourselves to be exploited because we are shamelessly uneducated and far too trusting of people who seem to have all the right things to say. However, I can support Che and other political activists like him that take a stand for something that is so unselfish. He is to Cuba what Thomas Jefferson was in America. That may be over exaggerating a bit, but the analogy is certainly there. They took a stand against a system that they didn't agree with, not for personal gain, but for the freedom of everybody from tyranny.

Mr. Jones, you too suffer from a bankrupted political philosophy. The pro-American Democracy stance suffers from shortcomings such as George Bush's power-hoarding, and the ability for a sovereign to break international peace laws by pre-emptively invading foreign nations, all the while without consulting the populace. Not to mention the tenuous economic stability. This, accompanied by your own inability to see faults and your ad hominem arguments would by your own standards make you a liberal.

ChicagoTeacher: if you can instruct students in political happenings and philosophy, then you can only be doing them a favor. I wish that my public educational experience had been as fulfilling. Mr. Jones may be right, that more people are becoming liberal (Obama won!), but it certainly isn't the failing educational system in this country (teach-to-the-test-mentality) teaching them liberal ideas. One would be hard-pressed to find kids learned enough to know their state capitol, let alone Marxist-Communist political rhetoric.

It is apparent on reading these comments, who of you have actually studied history and those of you who's opinion is formed from some information picked up at school and as an adult you've relied on the evening news (or your pals at work)for your opinion base. I did graduate from school, but I didn't really learn until I started to study on my own( I read The Killer Angels in 1975 and my thirst for history grows). ChicagoTeacher & Amanita I salute you. I have been a laborer all of my life. The rich and the powerful have risen to their positions of wealth and power on the backs of the working poor through out time. All true material wealth is produced by labor. I am certainly not a marxist(to much violence), but capitalism is not that great either. I've always under stood that starving to death is much worse than a bullet. Hey, why is it that Cuba has national health care and the good ol' USA doesn't? Oh, well! I,ve rambled long enough, but I do wonder if Mr.Jones has ever heard of Mother Jones. I also wonder if he was potty trained at gunpoint. Seamos como el CHE, patria o muerte!

The facts are, Che was a revolutionary Communist. I do not consider this a fight for freedom, it is a fight for his cause. He presided over the first firing squads of the Cuban Revolution. He promoted violence, not coolness which somehow the generations that were not even around when he was murdering people seem to define him as. Some of the comments above are unbelievable. You can't change the fact that he was a violent communist who killed to get his way. Now, maybe those in power before Castro were not the best to be in power but that is not a factor in Che's makeup. He was what he was. Tell me something, why isn't everyone making a big deal about how cool Castro was at that time? They were partners. Funny how everyone makes what they want to believe fit over what actually happened.

to: mckissack -- I certainly agree with you in that violence is not cool; but it is the last line of your comment that really hits the right cord. It reminds me of that Yankee myth about the American Civil War being fought over slavery, or why a minor incident in the Gulf of Tonkin justifies over 58 thousand dead. I wander just how many half truths and lies we've all been told. I'm old enough to have a teenager grandson(which I do) and at this point in my life I don't trust anyone in a position of power or authortiy. We should all seek for the real truth on our own and not rely on the misguided(or misinformed) opinions of others. Good Luck to us all in our quests for the truth.

Chicago teacher, you are a moron. Over 135,000,000 people were murdered by atheistic, communist governments in the 20th century, and you are bitching and whining about capitalism!! Are you on drugs or just stupid ? Truman dropped the atomic bombs on Japan to end the war because Japan would not surrender, and a land invasion of the Japanese islands would have cost a lot more lives on both sides. You obviously flunked history. Now you are blaming the West for the failed harvests in Russia? I have long believed that liberals are useful idiots and brain dead, but wow!! You are just plain insane! By the way, Native Americans were not given smallpox -infested blankets by settlers - just more lies by liberals. And yes, I am very proud of my country, the greatest nation on earth. You obviously hate America because you are a coward. With idiots like this as teachers, it is no wonder the state of education in this country is so abysmal.
