Nov 17 2008'The Wrestler' Poster Looks Tragically Defeated
In fact, every shot I see of Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler makes him looks like the saddest sack on Earth. Is being repeatedly beaten with a folding chair really so hard on the psyche? Is it so emotionally crippling to have a large, stringy-haired, half-naked man shout in your face, jump off a ladder, and attempt to force his body across yours, all while you have to kind of go along with it as part of an act? Yeah, probably. That sounds awful. That is the nightmare of a nightmare. I would only agree to become a professional wrestler if it was a respite from prison. Why is this pseudo-sport still existing?

Wow - surprising. Anyway this movie will probably be ok but it definitely looks like he's been kicked in the nuts in every poster/scene I've seen from it.
I agree that wrestling is a pseudo-sport. Since it is scripted but I'm sure takes a good amount of atheletic ability and probably do get banged up pretty good some nights. It's a guys soap opera. Over acting, lots of over the top drama, etc. but has some action scenes thrown in there. Also like soaps most people who watch it probably don't admit to it lol.
FAKE - not so much the lighting and isn't photoshop just isn't real wrestling.
--->Please spare us the actual FAKE post.

Wrestling is still around in an attempt to get dumb@$$es to try to repeat the stunt and kill themselves in the process. Natural selection ftw.

I've yet to read a bad review for this. Can't wait.

Anybody remember the beyond the mat wrestling documentary? That was decent, made you respect it at least. I'm sure this will do the same but not as well.

You misunderstand the film. Which is understandable seeing as you haven't watched it yet. Your interpretation of it is inverted. In fact, ALL of the highs of the wrestler character Rourke plays take place IN the ring and the dressing room with his fellow wrestlers. The beatings he takes in the story--the "emotionally crippling" humiliations, as you call them--take place out of the ring as the man tries to live a normal life.

With the existence of real fighting sports like UFC and WEC how do people over 9 years old still enjoy wrestling... Though this movie looks good.
And #7... Beyond the Mat was excellent....
