Nov 13 2008"Oops, Did I Write That?": Urkel Wrote a Movie

jaleel-white-urkel.jpg

Jaleel White--who should definitely not be indelibly tied to his role as a famously nerdy sitcom character, because he's an artist outside of that--has written a screenplay, and it's being made into a movie! So long, Starbucks:

[Joel] Zwick is attached to direct the romantic comedy "Did You Get My Text," written by White, best known for playing Steve Urkel on the 1990s sitcom "Family Matters."

In "Text," a young man starts a relationship with a girl on his friend's phone, turning their courtship into a comedy of technological errors. Zwick is repped by the Irv Schechter Co.

Cyrano de Bergerac though iPhones. Brilliant. All those shots of diligent button-pushing, thumbs hesitating nervously over the send button, and close-ups of glowing text slang are going to be so dramatic. He has come so far artistically since the Boss Sauce permanently transformed him into Stefan Urquelle. I'll never again be able to look at Jaleel White and see Steve Urkel, TV nerd. I'll only see Steve Urkel, atrocious screenwriter.

Great, thanks for the Stefan Urquelle spoiler there. With this lamentable revelation, I've lost any reason to conclude this weekend's marathon session with the Winslows.
