Nov 19 2008OMFG: 'X-Men: First Class' Movie Heading to Theaters?

The popularity of Twilight and High School Musical 3 might have ruined the film market for me, someone in the once-dominant demographic of 18-34 year-old-males: Hollywood is considering 13 to 16-year-old girls an important audience now! And we're targeting more movies towards them! Such as the new X-Men movie, which Josh Schwartz, the creator of Gossip Girl and The OC, will "inject a next-gen sensibility into"! X-Men: First Class's veins will be flowing with pure Pepsi:

Studio has tapped "Gossip Girl" creator Josh Schwartz to write "X-Men: First Class."

Schwartz, the creator and exec producer of CW's teen sudser hit as well as Fox's youth-centric "The OC" and NBC's "Chuck," is expected to inject a next-gen sensibility into the superhero series, which has earned $1.2 billion worldwide.

Writing assignment has also included the possibility of directing the pic, but so far Schwartz has opted not to take the helm.

Resulting film would likely draw from elements of the Marvel comic of the same name, launched in 2006, and enlist such characters as Iceman, Rogue, Angel, Colossus, Jubilee and Shadowcat, who have appeared prominently or made cameos in prior pics.

This will be so good. Jubilee will try to slap Shadowcat, and Shadowcat will be all "nuh-uh," and make Jubilee's hand phase right through her, and then a popular song will play--but not too popular, y'know? Or at least that's what I imagine. I haven't actually seen more than a clip of The OC or Gossip Girl, but my impression is that it's mostly affluent teens alternately deciding who to punch or kiss. Is that close?

How much more X-mens do we need?

A million more. That's how many we need. (only slight sarcasm - I actually love the X-Men movies).

I do however like Gossip Girl and if I had a 13 year old girl, I'm pretty sure she wouldn't be watching it. Maybe that is what the demographic is, but it's not what it should be.

If they can work a Little Sister Oooh Watcha Say moment into it, I'm sold.

That picture you posted is of X-Factor, not X-Men.

*adjusts pocket-protector*

it's also the original line-up.

*high fives self*

Ice Man is actually right handed.
*double-fist air pelvic thrusts*

It's a picture from X-Men: First Class Special, not X-Factor. Both are the original line up though.

@4
That isn't just X-Factor, that was the original line up of the X-men

also, I bet they'll find a way to toss Wolverine into this movie too.

look look!! it's the black guy from the Incredibles!

What #7 said.

*breaks out bong*

Ah comic book women... Where do they keep their internal organs?

One wonders how this'll be done, given that in the comics, the original five X-Men (which is what "First Class" focuses on in flashback fashion) were the teenage Cyclops, Jean Grey, Angel, Beast and Iceman, and the movies have already established that Iceman is a lot more than just four years younger than the other four, and that Angel was never a member of the X-Men or Xavier's school. And if it features Rogue, Angel, Colossus, Jubilee or Shadowcat, and is therefeore not a flashback to the original five, then how is it "First Class"? Why not just call it X-Men 4?

Thank you for using some Kevin Nowlan art in your post!

The only way this will work is if it's a relaunch, and Marvel has total control. FOX failed when they replaced Singer with Ratner. In the same way Warner Bros. failed when they hired Singer for Superman Returns.

#12 Young Cyclops, Jean, Beast, and Storm. It was mentioned in an article about Emma Frost being in the wolverine movie. In the article it talks about a "prequal idea" with Emma as one of their instructors.

I think they tried this once before? They made a t.v. movie of Generation X back in 90's. It had the characters Banshee & Emma Frost as the Headmasters at Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. It was kinda low budget from the bits & pieces I remember. An more recently I think they made another series called Mutant X, but I'm not that familiar with the series. I'm just going to patiently wait for the Wolverine, Thor, & Avengers movies to come out.

I thought the idea of X-Men-First class was to have the original five, hence "first" class, which means it would be angel, iceman, beast, jean grey and cyclops, not any of those characters listed in this post, sounds like Mr Schwartz is already doing a bang up job of screwing up the next edition to the franchise and he hasnt even started writing it yet, I'm already dissappointed
