Nov 21 2008'Arrested Development' News That's Actually Official in Some Way
S just got R, dudes:
The "Arrested Development" feature has moved closer to reality, with Mitch Hurwitz and Ron Howard reportedly closing deals for the long-gestating project from Imagine and Fox Searchlight. The possible migration of the critically acclaimed but short-lived Fox series to the big screen has been a hot topic among fans for the past year. Speculation has been fueled by cast members of the show, including Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Jeffrey Tambor, who have been frequently quoted in interviews that a feature adaptation is in the works.
Hurwitz, who created and exec produced the Emmy-winning series, is on board to write the film as well as direct with help from Howard.
This is like the happy version of walking in on your wife with another man. I KNEW IT! But still, I needed the confirmation.
At this rate, we should definitely have a trailer by 2012.

First, c'mon Hollywood, fast is better than slow.

I hope it comes out before December 2012, or I will be really pissed. Because the world will be over.

ok.... NOBODY frickin' watched the show.... what makes them think a Movie would do any better?

fireDog..it's because you're wrong. That's why they think a movie would do better. Because the entire staff, actors, writers, directors, key grips..they all know you and they know you are wrong.

Gah! They had better make it.
They owe me for that short third season. :]

Brilliant. This will not work if they try to 'continue' the series, though. They need some kind of fresh approach that doesn't just re-hash jokes from the episodes. Someone tell Mitchell Hurwitz to explore a 'prequel' idea. Where we see the Bluths in their slightly younger days (Cera said he doesn't want to be a part of it anyway). At least then they'd get new situations with the same characters that wouldn't leave fans feeling like they'd seen it all before.

why wouldn't cera want any of it? he still continues to portrait the same character in any other work for christ sake!

I don't really care. Never seen the show. I'd rather see a Sanford and Son or Jeffersons movie instead.

Foster, ya freak bitch, a prequel would be atrocious!

you know, I am thinking that a prequel wouldn't be awful. Not something in High school or anything, but maybe something before George Michael.
@7, I totally agree, it's not like the kid has amazing range or anything.

Only problem is that it's going to be like a very long episode in a very short season. The best part of Arrested Development for me was how something that came up in one eposide would have ramifications half a season later, if not the next season. That would be lost for me with only an hour and a half of show.
I'll go see it of course, if only to show studio execs that there is support for this kind of programming. Maybe they can undo their rectal-cranial inversion.

I would be sorely disappointed if Michael Cera wasn't in it. George Michael was so very funny! Is it a rumor or has he actually made a statement to that effect?
