Oct 22 2008Who Watches The 'Watchmen' Poster? Answer: You
Here's the new Watchmen poster, dudes. To those familiar with the comic, it's a look at the Comedian's dramatic fall from his luxury apartment. For those who haven't read Watchmen, it's clumsy Walmart commentary over the murder of Mrs. Doubtfire. Each interpretation is equally valid, and that's why art is beautiful.

its the opening scene douche, chill the fuck out. it's also the first fucking shot in the trailers....
idk, maybe try reading it sometime too?

Is either of the commentors above using sarcasm? Both, one of them, neither? I find it so difficult to see emotion and "read between the lines" on some blogs. If Wendy isn't attempting humor, "bah" hit it on the head with the suggestion to read the novel. Nice work "bah".
Anyways, great poster. However after seeing the last few moments of the new trailer, I feel the ending has certainly changed, and as a huge fan of the novel, I am saddened. The shot with Nite Owl and Spectre with an explosion in the background pretty much convinced me of it, as I couldn't correlate that to any frame in the novel.
However I would be happy to be incorrect and await other readers responses...

I don't know how i feel about them getting rid of the squid. Ok, granted, the squid was the worst part of the novel and just felt really cheesy and 80's, but does the guy who directed 300 really have the balls to change something people love?
I guess he does...

Changing the squid is infuriating. If you get entrusted with something like this, you make it faithful to the original. It's not like this same story wouldn't sell better with pitt/jolie acting, set in a more easily digested context. But he's not making a mainstream movie, he's making Watchmen. And part of the consequences of making Watchmen, is that you put the squid in.
Without the squid, there's no tie-in to the pirate story, there's no 'shock' when you realize that Ozymandius is mind-f**king everyone on earth, and there is NOTHING about nukes going off that would cause everyone on earth to band together and drop all their religious and class differences. If I heard a nuke went off in 10 places on earth, you think I'm going to go hug an Islam fundie? Only if I thought we had a common enemy, complete unlike ourselves, would I forget all of my own individual characteristics.

So the consensus is that they did change the ending? I am also very upset at this. I didn't think it was that bad of an ending and the tie in with killing the people who created it was simply fantastic. One must wonder if they changed Nixon's part in the novel too? I am way to young to have been under that political frenzy, but I can still relate to it. Of course anyone living under the Bush regime can relate, but it is similar in "80s quality" to the giant monster. Plus, that is why I enjoyed the novel so much, was the escapism. If I wanted my entertainment to include nuclear hostility and paranoia, I would turn on my late local news.
I will put it this way.
Star Trek updating the canon to reflect obvious technological advances since the original = ok
Fucking with Watchmen = directors nuts on an open fire.

I don't give a damn about the squid.

I loved that squid! It was like a brother to me. Or a sister. I'm not about to judge.
Actually I'm pretty upset about the ending. I thought it was such a clever solution to international warfare in the graphic novel, I found it to be just so perfect and the last little interaction between Dr. Manhattan and Ozymandias was so clear, it defined them so much as people. I'm going to be really bothered if Ozy's plan is actually nefarious or if Dr. Manhattan actually tips his hand one way or the other. I'm just going to be really ticked if they alter the characters.

What the Hell, it's a screen shot from the friggin movie!
Squid hating bastards

It's a comic book, kids. Who cares?
It's not a movie for us, it's a movie for all of the people out there that don't read comics.
I've never understood why it is people want to see on screen exactly the way they read it. "Sin City was so great, it's shot for shot out of the graphic novel!" Ummm....hello? I read the friggin' thing, why do I want to see the exact same thing on the screen? Give us the core feeling of the comic while showing us something new.
I'm holding my breath on this one because 300 was so shitty, but so was the comic. V For Vendetta on the other hand was amazing because they made changes. The Wachowski brothers got rid of all of the boring and useless bullshit and made a comprehensible move.
I don't care for the fact that they got rid of the plant/squid either, but if you really want to boil it down, just watch Independence Day. Me versus you = bad. Me + you versus them (alien)= good. But then again, I think the Watchmen comic book series (ever notice how "smart people" call them graphic novels?) is over-rated.
I wonder if Snyder will have to explain to people what this movie is really about,?

The mushroom cloud scene is straight out of the comic/novel. It is a dream that Night Owl has.
Did I just write a spoiler?
hi

Psssh, why would they keep something as awesome and important as the squid when they can't even get something as significant and simple as the blood splotch on the smiley face correct?
