Oct 16 2008God, Look at All This 'Star Trek'
All across internet, new production stills from Star Trek have turned up, such as the above shot from UGO. It's Chekov, Kirk, Scott, Bones, Sulu, and Uhura! Not pictured: Spock, Worf.
Below the cut: five more.
From JoBlo: Eric Bana, as the villainous tattooed Nero, plans an attack, possibly against Worf.

From AICN: Spock chokes out... is it... KIRK!? (photo by Worf)

From TrekMovie: An attack on a Federation (Worf's?) ship.

From MTV: The Enterprise bridge and crew--except for Worf, who is probably in sick bay after fighting with one of those giant Klingon sword things.

From IGN: Kirk exits a shuttle pod, climbing the walls of an ice planet not at all like Worf's home of Kronos.
And from IMDB: Worf:

Do you really think that somebody would yell "Worf was not in TOS, you moron!" ? ;)
2. Jayfournines - October 16, 2008 2:19 PM
and much like the "Never Back Down" meme over in Geekologie...I feel a "Worf" meme for this place
3. Jesus - October 16, 2008 2:19 PM
WORF WAS NOT IN TOS YOU MORON!
4. Satan - October 16, 2008 2:24 PM
Jesus likes star trek? I figured he was more of a battle star fan.

Needs more Worf.....
7. Frank - October 16, 2008 2:32 PM
That bridge looks phenomenal.
And on that picture, Worf looks like a melted bonbon.
8. Mr. BoJangles - October 16, 2008 2:49 PM
Feh. Trek is so 80s. I could never get what people saw in it, people with melted cheese on their heads pretending to be aliens, other people running around in fascist space pajamas pretending to be actors. Feh. And it went on for SUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCH a long time! Couldn't we have something new in Science Fiction, please? Something that doesn't suck, and doesn't use a done-to-death format yet again? Please, Mr. Adams? Please?
9. kevin - October 16, 2008 2:50 PM
Oh hai, Sylar in #3.
10. Mr. BoJangles - October 16, 2008 2:51 PM
oh, and @ "Frank," that bridge does not look phenominal. It looks like a Bang-Olfson store in the mall. You know what would look really phenominal? A real bridge in a ship.
Oh, wait, they don't use bridges in ships much anymore, they're outdated and inefficient. How far in the future is Trek again?
11. Mega - October 16, 2008 2:58 PM
Dude seriously, there are some things you don't joke about, like AIDS, and cancer and Worf being in the original series instead of TNG, you ass-hat. Get AIDS and die.
12. The Imaginary Reviewer - October 16, 2008 3:03 PM
This all makes me think of Saved By The Bell: The New Class, when Zack Morris et al were replaced by new young actors and actresses and it was all a little bit embarrassing.
13. wendy - October 16, 2008 3:04 PM
I'm not for or against trek but I do have to agree we could use some fresh concepts in popular sci-fi.
14. DFCtomm - October 16, 2008 3:27 PM
The picture where Spock is choking the guy, well doesn't he seem to be enjoying it just a bit too much for a logical, emotionless, Vulcan?
15. The F'n Jem'Hadar - October 16, 2008 3:37 PM
I'm calling it now; Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home remake!
16. DrNecropolis - October 16, 2008 3:49 PM
Meh, not bad. Look forward to it. If you look closely at the ice by Kirk you can see Captain America! true story
17. Eville1 - October 16, 2008 3:51 PM
Damn straight this needs more Worf.
Prune Juice! A warriors drink!
18. Morley - October 16, 2008 3:53 PM
I just hope they don't ruin the character of Dumbledore Calrissian.
19. B - October 16, 2008 3:55 PM
Next up: SeaQuest DSV: The Movie
Now that's a show I liked. Too bad Brandis & Scheider are dead.
20. ali - October 16, 2008 3:59 PM
didn't that 'Chekov' die in Aplha Dog? what is he doing in space?
21. mmagicus - October 16, 2008 4:12 PM
I love worf
22. Chinny - October 16, 2008 4:13 PM
I get the distinct feeling Karl Urban (and maybe Simon Pegg) will be the only people not ruining this.
I also get the very distinct feeling J.J. Abrams will be the main person ruining this.
23. Bubba Gump - October 16, 2008 4:28 PM

24. Evan - October 16, 2008 4:37 PM
That's not Nero, that's the Borg King they go back in time to fight in the Ice Age (hence that last shot of Kirk).
heh... Borgerking... ... ...shoot me.
25. Lorem Ipsum - October 16, 2008 4:50 PM
This Luke Skywalker crap is played out yo!! This movie will suck. Yep suck, cuz nobody cares about stupid light swords and jedi tricks. That old school lamesauce. Sorry, dont waste your money on this crappy movie!!
26. Krespie - October 16, 2008 5:00 PM
Is this an even Trek film or an odd one? I need to know so I can decide if I should skip it.
Also, why no tag for John Cho?
27. Mr. BoJangles - October 16, 2008 5:39 PM
@ Wendy: Thank you.
@ Krespie: Let's see, there was ST5: Put the Fogies Out To Pasture, then ST6: Kill the old fogies to make sure they don't undermine the popularity of the tailor's dummies from the new show, then ST7: Gee, that previous movie was a bad mistake and we need a war movie to make people give a damn, then ST8:What Is The point Of This Movie and then there was ST9: Put the Tailors Dummies Out To Pasture. So this would be ST10, which is an even number.
But I don't think that rule applies anymore, since all 4 of the TNG films have sucked.
Anyway, the upshot of all this is that this project is a weather baloon by Paramount to test a dead franchise they don't have a lot of faith in anymore (Note that everyone from the 90s trek is being kept away from it), so once this bombs you won't see any more Trek for 10 years or so.
ANd that's a good thing! A goooooood thing!
28. lunchboxx - October 16, 2008 5:59 PM
@8
startrek was not 80's.
it was infact late 60's to early 70's.
read up on your history.
29. Lt. Cmdr. Worf - October 16, 2008 6:43 PM
All my scenes are toward the end.
Bromance for my fans!
30. Wil - October 16, 2008 7:52 PM
Great . . . Sylar in Space. . . . heroes is seriously running out of realistic screenplays
31. Liederman - October 16, 2008 8:06 PM
@Wil,
Why on earth should Heroes have realistic screenplays? Oh right, I forgot people flying unassisted and shooting electricity from their hands is completely realistic . . .
32. Mr. BoJangles - October 16, 2008 11:24 PM
@ lunchboxx
Dude, I don't think I'm the one who needs to read up here - original trek: 1965-1968. Original Trek Movies: 1979-1991. TNG: 1987 - 1993. There's a whole hell of a lot of 80s in there: 4 movies and 3 seasons. The rebirth of Trek was very solidly an 80s phenomenon.
And a sad one!
33. Randy Landers - October 16, 2008 11:41 PM
*sigh* Why does Hollywood have to remake everything?
34. Robyn - October 17, 2008 2:43 AM
@19 I miss Darwin. Movies/shows need more talking dolphins.
Also, this cast looks like Teen Titans. I'm pretty sure you have to be at least 16 to drive a constitution class heavy cruiser.
35. Wil - October 17, 2008 4:45 AM
So we've got: Sylar, the dude from Lord of the Rings, the asian guy, and Shaun of the dead, . . . . but where the fuck is Unicron?? . . . . this movie sucks.
36. Red Hood - October 17, 2008 7:15 AM
Seriously this film looks good. For die hard fans, i dont know if they'll be happy with the bridge, it simply isnt the one from TOS, i personally think its going to be awesome. I do like the very Sylar-esk look in Spocks eyes when chocking on Kirk. They just had to put it in there, but hey why not. I cant wait.
37. Mr. BoJangles - October 17, 2008 8:30 AM
@ Red Hood -
I don't get how you're looking at 5 stills of people in sweat shirts standing around and saying "This film looks good!" I mean, how can you get any sense of how it'll play out from that?
Unless of course you're saying literally "I like the look of this film," in which case...ewwww.
But my insulting ways aside, it's an unenviable corner that JJ has boxed himself in to: on the one hand, he wants to revive a dead franchise that passed its peak of popularity more than a decade ago and which most people don't care about/ are once again embarassed by. On the other hand, he wants to do it *without* pandering to the core demographic, which is pretty much impossible to do without alienating it's core demographic.
38. Bobeyo - October 17, 2008 11:07 AM
Why is Kirk in a black shirt? Didn't he wear yellow? Or is yellow just not "cool" enough for modern audiences?
39. Bobeyo - October 17, 2008 11:08 AM
Also, why is there a picture of Piccolo at the top from the Dragonball movie?
40. Cory - October 17, 2008 2:08 PM
@ Mr. Bojangles
I got bad news for you...
ST1 - The Slow Motion Picture (suck)
ST2 - Coolest villain from the original show (awesome)
ST3 - Where did we put Spock anyways? (suck)
ST4 - WTF? Whales?! (good)
ST5 - Kirk vs. God FTW (suck)
ST6 - Out to pasture (good)
ST7 - OMG! They killed Kirk! (suck)
ST8 - Coolest villain from the second show (awesome)
ST9 - Long, middlin' 4th season episode (suck)
ST10 - New guys out to pasture (well, not AS suck)
this makes this one... ST11... an odd number. Shit. At least the sequel will be awesome!
41. Mr. BoJangles - October 17, 2008 2:35 PM
@ Cory:
Oh, crap! You're right! Well, you're mostly right: I forgot about the whales entirely! My count was off, this is an odd-numbered film. I'd disagree about any of the TNG movies being any good, but that's neither here nor there.
What I think is really going on here is that Kirk & The Boyz were kind of cultural icons, whereas their replacements, not so much. Just not terribly engaging. Yeah, we all like Data, but they did him wrong on the big screen, and he can't carry a whole movie, and does anyone really care about Janeway or Sisko? Really? I don't think so. So as a cinematic franchise, you need to have the original dynamic in place, or at least a reasonable fascimile.
Or at least that's what Paramount seems to think. That seems to be the point of the exercise to me. And maybe they're right, but if it turns out that it was that certain special somethin' that spark that the original (Now dead and/or fat) actors had that pulled it off, and not their cipher-like characters, then it won't fly any more than George Lazenby did as bond.
42. Cory - October 18, 2008 2:45 AM
I dunno'... DS9 was my favorite of all Treks. I think it depends more on what generation you're from (so to speak) and the dynamic of the show. TNG had potential that, i think, was only realized in the even numbered films. "First Contact" is my favorite Trek film, period. "Voyager" ended as a concept when they got home (about 5 seasons too late to leave a feeling of it not being drawn out and annoying) and DS9 was a running narrative that would really need a sequel series to do it justice.
My suspicion is that they discovered too late with "Enterprise" that what fans really wanted was to see the original series aliens, ships and concepts rendered with updated make up and effects. All the best episodes were 4th season ones which were exactly that, and I remember everybody flipping out over Gorn, Tholians, Romulans and flat-headed Klingons. That may have led directly into the remastered original series, where they CGIed up the ship exterior shots. Then along comes this reboot, which pretty much tops out the whole affair.
As for why the originals... I dunno'... Could be their iconic status, could just be the Trek geeks wet dream of wanting to see an effects dead-space filled with sweet CGI.
43. Red Hood - October 18, 2008 5:10 PM
@ Mr. BoJangles
I like the look, i think the costumes and the actors look better than i thought they were going to look. I think its interesting how JJ has gone about it. I really dont understand how you have an opinion on my views. Plus i really don't get the "eww" factor. By your own reasoning you also have no way of having a proper feel for it. Or you're not massive trek fan, in which case my opinion as a fan really shouldnt bother you.
To add, i am intrigued with how its going to turn out.
44. Rik - October 19, 2008 11:33 AM
Is Chekov played by the kid in Hearts In Atlantis??
45. Buttercup - October 20, 2008 4:44 PM
@44
yep, his name is Anton Yelchin.
46. bibleThump - October 20, 2008 8:16 PM
ok. ultimate question:
who would win? worf vs. spock?
47. Hunter - October 20, 2008 9:37 PM
I just sadly don't think it's going to be the same, I'll be sitting watching it and pointing out everything that ain't right... but we'll see, huh?
48. Mr. BoJangles - October 20, 2008 10:29 PM
@ Red Hood
Once upon a time, I loved Trek. I really did. I moved on. I read books, I watched movies that didn't involve Roddenberry, and I grew to realize that the show was kind of like the Sesamae Street of Science Fiction: It's a great show, it really is, it's entertaining, mildly thought provoking on occasion, and full of comfy, fuzzy ideas that make it easy to snuggle down for nap time. I don't even dislike the show now, really, I think it serves its purpose.
So along comes JJ Adams comes along and says "I'm going to make "Sesame Street: The Motion Picture, and it's gonna' be a kickass, adult-oriented film that'll prove to everyone that Supergrover and Oscar the Grouch must be taken seriously, and have important wisdom for our war-torn generation! Also, there'll be a lot of T&A and stuff'll blow up."
Ok, fine, but do we really need to see Elmo choking the crap out of Snuffalupacus? And if he really has a solid story to tell, wouldn't it be better to tell it in his own new setting w/ new characters? Start his own chain rather than be a link in someone elses?
I just don't get the point.
49. Cyke101 - October 21, 2008 5:48 PM
Agreed, this film needs more Worf. In fact, lots of things could use more Worf.
@3: Oh, and Worf really was in TOS. He was in the barfight with Chekov and Scotty (nyah nyah).
50. K lee - October 21, 2008 11:56 PM
This makes me want to Worf up my lunch. OH SHATNERLESSNESS!
51. Red Hood - October 22, 2008 5:33 AM
@Mr. BoJangles
I totally understand your misgivings. I just think that maybe this could be good. I'm going to take it for what it is. An update, they just dont want to use the term "reboot". Im sure it'll loosely tie in with TOS, but from the look of that bridge, well it doesnt have TOS feel. I think Sylar as Spock is a great casting and i think that the film has the potential to be amazing, but thats it really.
52. ed - October 22, 2008 9:31 AM
ive got a fever, and the prescription is more Worf...
53. Mr. BoJangles - October 22, 2008 11:25 AM
@ Red Hood:
Fair enough.
No offence intended, but as for me, personally, I hope it's a MI:3-level superbomb so that the franchise can stay dead for a while. Let someone with a better sense of storytelling than the current Paramount doofuses pick it up and run with it in 20 years or so, kinda' like the BBC has done with the new Dr. Who.
54. The Guy With The Thing - October 22, 2008 9:01 PM
I consider myself to be a devout, diehard star trek fan. Admittedly, some of the movies weren't that great, and Enterprise never should have happened at all. I do Like JJ Abrams though, so I think I can give this one a chance, despite the fact that Chris Pine looks way too pretty to play a good kirk. And from a purely scifi movie fan standpoint, I will have to reserve judgement on this one till I acutally see some acutal footage. Mr. Bojangles does have a point about the new bridge. To me, it looks like what I would expect to see when I walk into a Mac store. Again, though, I'll just have to wait and actually watch it to see if it's any good.
55. Mr. BoJangles - October 23, 2008 11:03 AM

58. Mr. BoJangles - October 24, 2008 1:05 PM
Which Avatar? The James Cameron film that's been backburnered for more than a decade, or the M. Night. Shalaman live-action trilogy based on the Nickelodeon Cartoon?

stfu all of you.
Worf pwns.
Only data is/was better.
so yeah STFU!
60. Kirai - November 2, 2008 2:22 AM
You people get so worked up about movies. I laughed!
This movie, I think, will be worth seeing. ... Half because of curiosity and half because of Spock.
Hopefully JJ does a lot of viral marketing. That stuff is what made Cloverfield mildly interesting.
