Oct 31 2008Final 'Valkyrie' Trailer Makes Hitler Assassination Fun

Here's the final trailer to Valkyrie, the Bryan Singer-directed, Tom Cruise-starring historical thriller about a German assassination plot against Hitler. The film looks well made, but I can't help but feel a lack of tension knowing that the plot fails (thanks for the spoilers, history). I hope, to keep things interesting, there's a second, "or what if THIS happened?" ending where we see the plan succeed and Hiter gets blown up. You know, just something tasteful, like the fuhrer sees the bomb and is like, "Ooooohhh shiiiiii--" and then you see an explosion as Tom Cruise rides up on a horse, Hitler's mustache floating gently in the sky (like that CGI feather in Forrest Gump), and Cruise says, "Let's get the heil outta here!"

Maybe for the DVD?

Man, it is so tense when Tom Cruise gets pushed into a Nazi rally and accidentally holds out his assassination diary to Hitler--who then signs it, thinking it's an autograph book! Close one, Tom Cruise.

Oh, that Saw music gets to me every time...

I still think they should have called it: "Hitler be Trippin' " and made it a slapstick comedy. Very disappointing.

That indiana jones reference is fucking classic

Wait a second! Are you people saying that there are GOOD GUY nazi's?

Accents would have helped A LOT. This could be Mission Impossible for all I'd know...

That alternate ending would be freaking awesome.

And yes, #4, they're "good guy nazis," if that's what you want to call them.

Anyway, this movie looks awesome and I can't wait to see it, personally.

I would really want to see this, but I just can't get past Tom Cruise. Too bad, because Tom Wilkinson rules life.

Does anyone know what that officer says at 00:42? I can't figure it out.

Also, doesn't it annoy anyone else that they have to actually say the title? I mean, they didn't use a voice-over guy for the entire trailer except for the end, to say a word which we can plainly read. Do they assume some people have no idea how to pronounce "Valkyrie?"

@#7-
It's a true story, and no one is going to believe that the people behind Operation Valkyrie never said the name.

Alright, #7, that's just silly. If you like Tom Wilkerson, go watch the film and support it. Don't let the presence of one [outstanding] actor turn you off from a movie that looks this great.

I actually made myself sit through Lucky # Slevin because I thought the trailer looked good and I knew Bruce Willis played in it, despite the fact that I didn't think I'd be able to "get past" Josh Hartnett (ugh). Turns out it wasn't that hard.

@ #8, not the actors, I mean that they hired the voice-over guy just to say the title of the movie. I have no problem at all with the characters saying valkyrie. It just seems out of place when they don't use a voice-over for the rest of the trailer. A small thing, undoubtedly, but annoying.

@ #9 Lol, yeah, Hartnett is another I find hard to get past. I don't know, I'll see how I feel when it comes out. I'll definitely see it, but I might just wait to rent.

Cruise has past the point of not return.

they werent "good nazis". this van staufenberg story is well too hyped up. they were a bunch of cowards who made up this huge fuckin plan instead of just taking a gun and shooting that asshole in the face. i find it really disrespectful that they make em out to be such "good people" sometimes...they were merely better than the rest of em.

and i m a german. this is no anti german rant.

@1..... I want to play a game.

Was that Ron Hubbard at the end...oh no wait sorry that was Hitler...my bad.
