Harvey Milk was the first openly gay man elected to a public office in the U.S. (though some of the Founding Fathers seemed a bit iffy at times). He was then murdered by a fellow city supervisor who hated Harvey Milk being the first openly gay man elected to a public office in the U.S., because that's the American way. Gus Van Sant has made the story into a biopic starring Josh Brolin, James Franco, Emile Hirsch, Diego Luna, and Sean Penn as Milk, a role that will surely get him Oscar nominations and other prizes made of gold. Here's the trailer:

I still can't get over Hirsch as young Gene Shalit.

I'm not big on political movies, but I might actually see this one.

That's gay.

The city supervisor who killed Milk then got off incredibly easy when he used the infamous 'twinkie defense,' whereby he had eaten too many twinkies prior to the assassination, rendering him incapable of rational thought. He served five years for killing the mayor and Milk.

The Life and Times of Harvey Milk is a great documentary. I watched it months ago when I heard they were making this film. Rent it. Amazing story. Can't wait to see this flick.

The 'Twinkie Defense' actually meant to convey that the supervisor, who was normally in very good shape and cared much about his health, was in an altered mental state, shown by the twinkie consumption.

looks freakin' amazing. sean penn is a genius at everything he does.

Sean Penn and Gus van Sant make me gag, but this looks like it could be pretty interesting. I am, however, severely disappointed in already knowing that the James Franco wee is prosthetic. Boo!

That's gay.

wow i can't believe emile and diego acting like gays hahah it's so funny
