Sep 22 2008Here's Why No One Playing 'The Sims' Ever, EVER Said, 'This Would Make a Great Movie'
Speaking of reckless god-children forcing their will on the unsuspecting*, this is what producer John Davis is saying the plot of The Sims movie will be:
The Sims, as you know, you can control your imaginary world, right? And our movie, a young man, a 16 year old kid of a 14 year old kid and his friend get their hands on this thing called the Sims Infinity Pack, right, which kind of this very strange video game store which was there just for that moment, and seemingly wasn’t all that. But what they realize is that they can scan their world in, because this is the most life like, real Sims game ever. And as they are playing this they are all of a sudden realizing is what they are playing on the game is having an effect on the real world. So in effect, through the game, they are able to control their world.
But that's not all! The producer of Norbit, Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties, and Alien vs. Predator added:
And definitely there will be somebody coming out of the game into the real world, like “Weird Science” did.
Let me make sure I understand this. So, a couple teens find a mystical, ephemeral Electronics Boutique that sells them a magic The Sims game that can alter reality, and then a character from the video game (who I assume would just be some dude or some gal, since that's what all the characters in The Sims are) somehow exits the game? I will accept that as a Disney Channel Original Movie, I will accept it as an episode of Tales from the Darkside, and I will accept it if it were made in the '80s, when we still didn't know enough about video games to accurately determine whether or not characters exiting the game was a valid concern. I will not, however, believe this as an actual movie concept. I mean, unless the internet is involved somehow; then I'd totally buy it. That's still new enough that I don't fully understand it, so it may very well have the capability of making video games real.

wouldn't this idea have been better 10 years ago when The Sims was relevant? does anyone even play the game any more? Does anyone think this sounds like a remotely watchable movie plot?

The only people I know who play the sims2 make anime characters re-enact smut yaoi fanfiction with no regard to character age or any plot of the anime they might come from. And then they wank to it.
