How hard is it for Hollywood to just stick with the story? Fans of the series like myself had better be ready to boycott this blasphemous film. Why is Piccolo not green? I mean c'mon, of all his features in the show, you would think they would at least keep the green skin... what idiot in a suit is making these decisions? Where's Krillin? F YOU ALL!

Wow. As a person forced to watch the entire series all the way through (and enjoying it for the most part other than the 12 episode kamehameha charges), this looks like an absolutely horrendous, embarrassing failure. I know hollywood is incapable of producing good movies anymore, with a couple of exceptions, but for the LOVE, PLEASE, if you MUST rip off a series with such a strong following, at least stick to the original in terms of the characters looks. If the 4th frame hadn't said "Piccolo" next to it, I could have guessed that I was supposed to be looking at Frieza. It's obviously too late for this movie...but I hope this movie is such a terrible, horrible flop that the producers realize they can't just take a series w/ such a cult following and interpret it however they like. It'd be like trying to recreate the original Indiana Jones..... oh wait..... they just tried that.... *sigh*

I have a friend in the movie business and she had to watch this movie to be able to make opening credits and closing credits. She said it was fun but she also never watch Dragon Ball.

Wow, where the fuck IS Krillin? Last time I checked he was one of 2 main characters in the original Dragonball.

It's getting pretty fucking hard to stay optimistic about this film.

It will be an utter shame and super failure. The fact that they are not keeping anything from the original series the same is just sad...

Good call on Frieza, If that were the case, I wouldnt have been 'as' dissapointed. I'd like to hold out some hope as this movie is being produced by the director of Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hussle. But uh, no, not much hope at all.

ON THE PICCOLO DEBATE:

I heard that apparently those pictures of Piccolo show him when he is old (at the beginning of the movie). When he turns into a younger version of himself he is actually green. so, with age he loses his skin colour like other ppl their hair colour? odd, but acceptable I guess!

I can't believe they could stray so far from the source material. The source material has a huge following, so instead of cashing in on it, some idiots who have never seen the show before decide to make a 'few minor changes'. This is the equivalent of making Superman have wings or making Batman orange. STICK WITH THE SOURCE YOU IDIOT FOOLS!!

I can't even begin to convey how absolutely disgusted I am with this film. I mean they even somehow got Stephen Chow, STEPHEN F'ING CHOW to work on it (Shaolin Soccer, Kung Fu Hustle). He is THE ONE GUY who could have made this work. Why, I recall back in the day musing to myself "wouldn't it be great if Stephen Chow made the Dragonball Movie? Shaolin Soccer and Kungfu Hustle are awesome!"

Why would anyone take something they have never had an interest in, and attempt to make a movie out of it. Do you think Dan Akroyd would let just anyone make a Ghostbuster Movie? HECK NO because he cares about the franchise.

Some Things wrong with film thus far:
Where's Krillin? Goku's best friend growing up, they trained together under master roshi. In this film, Goku has a different best friend named Tito or something gay.

Goku goes searching for the dragonballs as Grandpa Gohan's dying wish.. Wait what? In the original series, Grandpa Gohan was already dead, and had left his Dragonball with Goku. Bulma stumbled upon Goku while looking for the Dragonballs.

Piccolo... oh where to even start... I mean how hard is it to match a color. Honestly. I could say much more, but there's no need to after that a-bomb.

Also, Ernie Hudson is Master Roshi's master? WTF? Master Roshi does not have a master in Dragonball. I suppose he would have had to at some point before the Dragonball series, but my gosh, they may as well take a dump on the camera and say its Dragonball.

Oolong? Puar? Yajirobe? Tien? Yamcha? Where ARE these characters?!? This just makes me want to f'ing PUKE!!

Whoever they are catering this film towards, it is NOT fans of the series.

I DO remember Alien Nation! I haven't seen it in years. When I was about 14 I had a huge crush on James Caan and watched it all the time.

What is it with people and their concern with characters LOOKING the way they do in the show. A character is in in the personality not the appearance. that's why its called character in the first place. Who cares if master Roshi is bald as long as he's a nasty perverted martial arts bad ass? And the reason Piccolo isn't green is because the anime Piccolo would look like shit live action. Green Skin? Purple suit? White cloak, and turban? This version not only looks more realistic, but I'm sure Marsters will bring the character to life.

I mean its interperetation. If you want the exact same thing watch the anime or (far) better yet, read the manga. I'm a huge DB fan ie: multiple copies of the entire manga and anime, tons of collectible.

Even though its my "thing" I can still understand it for what it is and story detail isn't one of them. Every story in DB/DBZ/DBGT essentially equals:
insane villain appears
crazy battles ensue
weaker characters owned
Goku shows up (insert Gohan occasionally)
Goku owned
Goku goes all out and wins
everyone has a barbecue

As long as they stick to this formula and the CG isn't complete shit it should be mildly entertaining. However I do agree that the lack of green is disheartening.

Also Krillin blows, even DB Krillin. Lack of Krillin is not a reason to hate
Roshi did have a master in the series. Mutaito trained Roshi and Tsurusennin nad created the Mafuba technique that originally imprisoned Piccolo.

Please everyone dissing about the Dragonball movie please shut the fuck up. Why? If you really hate it so much why still check up news on it? You should had seen them in earlier posts. Secondly they HAD TO CHANGE THE LOOKS because its REAL LIVE ACTION. FUCK imagine a bald guy walking around in a turtle shell, or a villian with the same look as traditional Piccolo, it might appeal to fans of the series but YOU GUYS ARE NOT THE ONLY PEOPLE WHO WILL WATCH IT. Imagine someone who never watched it watched the movie with what you guys wanted, he would be thinking "Wtf is this piece of old fashioned crap?". Anime like Dragon Ball and real life DOES NOT MIX, THEY HAVE TO CHANGE IT. Just look at Dark Knight's Joker, does he look like the old fashioned looking Joker in the comic? No, and movie goers loved it. Just imagine Christian Bale wearing that grey and black Batman suit from the comics, hell yeah the movie gonna look hell gay.

This is a plot from the japanse. They let some movie maker made a Dragonball movie (and Sucks !!!) ...so they can rescue the saga by producing a CGI movie and be the Heroes of the Fans ...

Just like they did with the American Version of FINAL FANTASY (tha was like a deception) and rescue the franchise name, making FINAL FANTASY VII Advent Children.

These comments have made me realize there are people out there who actually care about a Dragon Ball movie. That makes me kind of sad.

This movie will suck dragon ballz, just like the show always did. Who gives a shit?

1) Goku looks okay for DB (not DBZ) cuz you can't have a 6 year old accurately play a good character.

2) The picture of Piccolo is probably just the makeup the actor wears. In the final cut they might/probably will edit his skin to make him look green and add CG antennae. (anyone else think his suit looks like Green Goblins from the first Spider-man?)

3) Yamcha is in the movie (protrayed bt Joon Park), so are Chi-Chi and Bulma (not everyones missing). They're (probably) keeping Vegeta, Gohan (definately), Krillen, and other Human/Sayins, for #2, which could be the DBZ Sayin Saga.

4) Master Mutaito is in the movie (Ernie Hudson), so this gives Grandpa Gohan a chance for scree time. (a sceen where Mutaito imprisons Piccolo maybe).

I think it's left over Buffy and the Vampire make-up they used on the Piccollo actor. It was already fit to his face so why not right?

I wish Piccollo was green, but I'll be happy if this movie turns out better than DOA. Hell it will be surprising if they put that much more effort into it.

This is DRAGONBALL not DRAGONBALL Z. The first Dragonballs were originally small. You would know that while watching the first few eps of Z.

And guys, like the article said, Joker isn't looks exactly like how it did in the comics and series. This is just another interpretation. Obviously the green skin and purple clothes are very possible to do if you look up the cosplays on the net. I've seen great cosplay groups but if you take a step back, the cast in the original costumes and make-up WILL look childish. I'm sure the reason they're doing this is to target our age group who has GROWN-UP and want to impress us. Not the kiddos who are watching Hannah Montana and High School Musical these days.

Do the criticism after you see the movie. Let's just hope the director and producers know what they're doing.

It just doesn't have the DB feeling for me. If they wanted to make a martial arts movie with people flyin' around, fine. But why call it dragon ball? The art direction, characters, story... from what I've seen, nothing looks much alike so far. I wonder what Toriyama would think.

When something is successful, changing the formula is probably the worst idea ever. This is a dumb movie with dragonball ideas loosely put on it. I hope someone making the movie is reading these comments so he knows how upset people are, and how many are going to avoid this like the plague.

wow i don't know but i think (i think) i might be the first person to say this but it is in fact the way i feel....i think piccolo actually looks cool. yeah i know what he looks like in the cartoon but that pic with him and his name wearing that epic looking armor i thought hey that looks cool. and its an adaptation and ppl plz u know the series, krillin wasn't in this saga. so quit complaining cuz u know your gonna watch it one day either in theaters or on tv years later because you are in fact going to see this movie (eventually) which proves your constant beckering on forums no matter how negative only shows your a hypocrite!

And, people that go to see the movie that have no clue about what dragonball is are not going to care that Pic's skin is not green. Just like how people still liked Transformers, because it focused on human characters, not on the robots like it SHOULD. People who are not fans of the origional series could care less of what the origional series is.

My biggest problem with this movie is that if it turns out good, we will get ANOTHER POSER CRAZE. Dark Knight was the #1 pozer craze of all time, with all the stupid people pretending they have been Joker fans thier whole life just because of Heath Legders great perfomance as a character that was a cliche-Hannibal Lector-type psycopath in makeup. People now are going to be saying how awesome DB is and begin again. >:(

If you really think that a character lays just on personality, that the visual impact of a long known comic hero is just disposable and what really matters is personality, then shove Will Smith in the Batcave and see if it´s only personality (Jesus I hope no producers read this), or watch (*sob*) that cosmic fart they said was Galactus in F4. It is neutral, it devours worlds, it was NOT f****ing Galactus I know.

People expects to see Wolverine slicing people with claws not a butter knife, expects to go see a movie where the gaze of Bruce Wayne feels like u shat in your pants, not freaking Val Kilmer. If people like to see a green alien with antenae wearing a turban, it´s what thay expect to see, and I can figure at least ten ways of making it look creepy and epic, which makes me think that we, fans of the series are not what this horrible producers have in mind, children instead, who never even saw the original DB, and will find it most exciting, as Super Mario was.

I just beg for you creators out there, don´t let them do this with your work, Bob Kane is already convulsing inside his grave, Shigeru Miyamoto must have eaten all his nails after Mario Bros., grab your self respect and the respect your fans have for you and don´t let them disgrace your lagacy.

Thats what I was saying. The producers have no want to satify the fans needs, they just want money for something they didn't create. When I mentioned Transformers, there were too many human characters about what is about, um.....Transformers. 'Cuz thats what the public wants to see. A little 10 year old that has no clue what DB is, is not going to care that Pics not green, and he will like the movie anyways. Its all about Mass Marketing.

Actually, Stephen Chow isn't involved at all because Fox wouldn't take any of his suggestions, so now he is trying to distance himself from this crap so it won't ruin his reputation.

I forsee about 10 billion complains when this movie comes out.

I mean they fucked up Piccolo completely (He looks more like a shitty vampire then an alien.). After all the skin colour is wrong, the cloths are just bizarre...and they actually did a few other things that makes him look more like a combination of lesser alien characters in the series.

Also for a Dragonball movie, the guy playing Goku is too old. If it was Dragonball Z sure he'd be fine, but Goku was between 10-12 for the vast majority of the Dragonball series!

The dragonball itself looks okay though.

Oh, and one other thing I'd just like the mention. The picture of the real Piccolo you used (though you probably know this) is the one of Piccolo 2, who is basically the reborn form of the original Piccolo (he's sometimes referred to as the originals son, which is kind of true in a way). The original didn't have the cape or turban, plus he was a bit more aged in appearance.

Yeah, get a 10 year-old to play Goku, that will make the movie better! You can't follow everything EXACTLY like the source. Making Goku 'older' is actually a better change to the original. Piccolo just fails because they can do so much better to him without damaging the character, but aren't (as far as we know).
