Warner Bros. has announced The Dark Knight will have an IMAX rerelease in January, so that come voting time, Academy members will remember, oh yeah, there was that Batman movie. From THR:

Warner Bros. wants a statuette -- or 10 -- for "The Dark Knight." So the studio plans to rerelease its blockbuster Batman sequel in January, the height of Academy Awards voting season.

"It's just a matter of bringing it back as a reminder for people," a studio insider said.

The second run will be a slightly altered cut where the "magic trick pencil" scene is repeated several times and followed by a title that says, "Seriously, did you see that shit? Plus, HE'S DEAD."

When did they make a batman movie?

This is Heath Ledger now i believe....

whoa the new scenes sound dope. they just gotta drop about an hour from the movie (including the sonar thing, harvey dent crying) and i'm there.

Just a ploy to make sure it surpasses Titanic.

If they nominate that dumbass guy who sounds like he smoked too much I'll be so pissed off. If they nominate anybody it should be Heath Ledger.
.....just for the pencil thing, which was so bitchen and so effing quick I thought I imagened it O_o

ha ha yeah, that pencil trick was so sweet. I saw it in IMAX when it first came out and couldn't believe how awesome it was. Ledger deserves the Oscar for his outstanding performance. "Why so seriouss..."?

I know he's dead. I know, I know. But you cannot honestly watch that performance and not think it's freakin' amazing...

and hat pencil trick was the most badass thing in years o.o

@Elmo

Agreed. Bale was great, but not Oscar great. (and well, he's Batman. What can you do :p)
I would actually also approve of a supporting actor nomination for Gary Oldman (and maybe Aaron Eckhart) in addition to a best actor nom for Heath Ledger. They may have had more understated parts, but they did it stunningly. Why isn't there an 'ensemble cast' Oscar category :s?

@7: If they instituted an ensemble cast award (which I think would be a wonderful addition), they would need to backtrack and give Robert Altman's films a few of those. :P

@7
Oh yeah I love Gary Oldman, but I always think he's too good for the Oscars :)
err I guess I'm more into all the UK's stuff anyway but stil it's the *OSCARS* :P
And I did like Christian Bale in that but the voice was my only complaint about the whole movie (except that it wasn't longer) And everyone thinks that it's because Heath's dead that we think he's so amazing in that.. I mean, have these people seen it?! I always compare great preformances to what they did before, aaand I think before Heath was just *acting* to be an OK actor, when he was actually that good all along ;))

I don't understand why everyone is complaining about batman's voice. If I was in a dark alley and this huge bat was there, that voice alone would freak the crap out of me! Get over it! It works! It strikes terror into the hearts of evil men. CB, hope you get an oscar for bringing the very best BW/BB to the big screen!! I'm there in January for the re-release!!
