Aug 22 2008Zac Efron Pretending to be an Actor in 'Me and Orson Welles'
Twitch Film has the first look at Zac Efron not in a school's musical production, starring in Richard Linklater's Me and Orson Welles. I've been skeptical of Efron's part because he has an aging-sprite-like quality I find jarring, but maybe the casting will end up somehow getting a new generation of tween girls into the works of Welles (that won't happen). Or if this doesn't work, maybe MTV can make a hip-hop dance competition-based romance called Citizen K. Rosebud can be a do-rag?

Ok, which one is he?

That's what I was wondering. I was thinking the one on the left with the tacky coat. None of the rest of them look like they'd fit in High School Musical.

He's the one on the left not wearing a hat.
Also it would be great if he surprised everyone and was actually a damn good actor...I mean he ride the High School Musical wave forever...every fad dies at some point.

Ah yes, Efron would be the man-child on the left. You know, the kid that looks like he stole his dad's clothes to impress the grown-ups? I really do injoy the fact that I can invent my own interpretation of the scene though. I can only assume that Efron's character just finished performing a musical interpretation of The War of The Worlds, set only to snare drum and symbol, to which Orson promptly replied: "Fuck you."
End of film.

Oh for fuck's sake. Please don't piss even more on the memory of Orson Welles. The man had a difficult enough career. At least he died before he could see someone like Zac Efron come within ten feet of his name. However, I am a huge Welles fan and am ashamed to admit I'm still a little excited to see this, despite the presence of any High School Musical alum.
And if one little girl goes out and picks up a copy of The Third Man because of this movie, at least some good will come from this. ...Right? At least the guy doing Orson Welles looks a decent amount like Welles, although I'll be interested to see what he sounds like.

i have to admit, those are some of the nerdiest looking gangster types i've ever seen. they had to pick total dweeb looking gangsters to make Zac Efron look tough, no doubt.

Everybody has to start somewhere. Zac has done more than just High School Musical. And I thought that he was really good in Hairspray. Just because he hasn't had a lot of serious roles yet doesn't mean that he won't mature into a good actor. Don't judge him because of stupid projects like HSM. He's only 20 for gosh sakes. Why not have an open mind? Give the kid a chance. Don't forget how John Travolta started out.

Give it a break already. Zac Efron is a decent young man, trying to make his way. Don't judge someone prior to at least viewing his latest work. Granted HSM is just about worn out it's welcome, and we are all tired of hearing about it. I didn't even know who he was prior to Hairspray. He can do more than sing and dance, don't we wish we all could.

@9: You do know those aren't supposed to be gangsters, but Orson Welles and others, right?

Oh, and for those who are sure that he has no talent and can't act, maybe you should check out a 17 year old Zac in a 2004 Lifetime movie called Miracle Run. He plays an autistic teen. It's coming on again this September 28. He's got the autism down pat. I know. My son is autisic.

I saw this film at the Toronto Film Festival. Efron was just so-so, he could have been replaced by someone else. The man who played Orson Welles was spectacular, though.
On a side note, the guys behind Welles in the scene are people who are part of the cast and crew in Welles's theatre productions.

Oh my gosh, I can't believe I havn't seen this movie yet. I am the biggest Zac fan ever! Do you know where I can see this movie on the internet (the whole thing) or where I can buy it?
