Aug 8 2008'Dark Knight' Concept Art: It Turns Out Joker Could Have Been More Freakish

It's 2008. No one likes books (yeck!), let alone buy them (we download them if necessary, then read them on those electronic tablets that everyone uses to read books now). So how are we, as a society, supposed to see The Art of the Dark Knight book without spending money on a book? The internet, obviously. /Film has graciously posted some scans of early concept art of the Joker, which you can see here. The designs range from disturbingly graphic to "hey, is that Scott Weiland?"

If they only could have used what Heath Ledger looks like now....

Hey, is that Elijah Wood?

I like the Ichi the Killer cut mouth thing, very disturbing in the first two pics. Honestly, I still prefer how it turned out, the make up work is great in the film, such a nice cut up smile. A corpse would've been creepier, but much less animated, which I think helped the character out a lot.

While I do really like the first couple shots, I think that style would have looked out of place in the context of the movie--a little too much like low-budget horror.

Especially that Wolfmanesque hair on a couple of those...

yea luks like they considered wood for the role? coming to think of him in connection with the dark knight....how bout elijah as penguin?? cud work in a weird way?

the scars are slightly larger; big whoop

@2: Wow... My sister and I BOTH thought exactly the same thing. Independently. Did they use Elijah Wood as a model for the art, or did they use the real Elijah Wood? Maybe he was set to play Young Joker in a flashback, but it got dropped...

I'm convinced that the above pic is just a photoshopped Scott Weiland pic. The resemblance is uncanny!

Hmm i wonder why they had to copy ichi the killer concept? although it migh have been better than the Crow concept the copied...brandon lee also died before the movie was previewed by the way...just a thought
