I totally forgot Tim Burton was making a new version of Alice in Wonderland, but yeah, he is, and word is he's found his lead in Australian actress Mia Wasikowska--and he didn't even have to look through the looking glass to find her! Haha! Try and top that, Hollywood Reporter!
Tim Burton and Disney have found their new Alice -- not in Wonderland or down the rabbit hole but Down Under.Australian actress Mia Wasikowska is in final negotiations to walk through the looking glass in Burton's take on Lewis Carroll's classic fantasy novel "Alice in Wonderland."
Damn, they got me again. "Wonderland," "down the rabbit hole," and "through the looking glass," all in two sentences? I don't know how they do it. I'll out-idiotic-cutesy-reference you one day, Hollywood Reporter.

Tim Burton is going to fuck this up.
Alice in Wonderland is a great piece of literature that should be READ because of the prose, language and rhythm. It should be not made into films anymore. Most people have never read "Alice," which is such a f--king shame.

I think she has kind of a cool look to her. But you just know that Burton's going to make this all dark and American McGee-like, and that's just not necessary anymore. We can all see the horrifying subtext without any help. I read the book when I was a kid, and I don't remember much, but the scenes I do remember weren't in any adaptation I can recall. Maybe they should try just doing it straight...but that'll never happen. Wasn't there something like Alice walking through a forest that made things forget what they were, and she met a deer, and they were friends because they didn't remember that the deer was supposed to be afraid of her? That was amazing and it's stuck with me all these years, but I doubt it will be in ths movie.

Nothing Tim can do will make this version of Alice in Wonderland more traumatizingly awesome than the made-for-tv version from 1985 with Sammy Davis Jr (Jr) and Carol Channing. She was even scarier than the Jabberwocky, which gave me nightmares.
