Jul 15 2008'The Spirit' Trailer Has Girls, Ridiculous Costumes, '80s Sex Romp Movie Poster Imagery, Girls

It looks like it's of questionable origins, so hurry up and watch this trailer to The Spirit before it's replaced by a take-down notice. My first thought was, "This is like if Frank Miller directed the intro to The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis." My next thought was, "Why was your first thought of a show that went off the air almost two decades before your were born?" I have no idea. Subliminal Nick at Nite?

Thanks, Kevin!

Crazy madness, might have to give this idea a second chance.

was that samuel l jackson in a nazi uniform? hmmm....equal-opportunity nazis.....awesome.

I afraid there's more questionable to this movie than the origine of the trailer..

Frank Miller signing off.

Yeah, no, it looks almost nothing like the comic book it's based on. My prediction: it will be absolute rubbish.

Looks cool, i would tear scarlett johansson up! god damn shes hot

I....I honestly have no idea.

Well looks slightly less like Sin City than the first trailer (which is a good thing b/c Miller got tons of flack for that)

still don't know about this movie....

I didn't know the world's only black nazi and the afro samurai were in this.were in this.

I loved reruns of Dobie Gillis!

Oh dear. This looks terrible.
I don't know much about The Spirit, but what I did know made me intruiged to see the film. This however, has put me right off. They should've kept the visuals more in line with Unbreakable. Y'know, stylish but real.
Why does Samuel Jackson only star in awful films these days?

I'm not too familiar with the original material, but as a movie this has piqued my interest. Looks pretty cool in my opinion.

I think if The Cell and all the opening title sequences to the Bond movies had a kid at Sin City Hospital, it'd look something like this. It looks to depart from Eisner's original vision radically.

FUCKIN SAW IT THIS MORNIN ON WHADEVER THE SITE WAS N IT GOT DELETED BEFORE I SAW IT. NOW AGAIN. FUCK THIS. WHATS THE POINT ???

Samuel L. Jackson as an (bada)SS Officer, a samurai and a machine-gun-wielding pimp. If this isn't true to the original comic, I'm not sure I ever want to read it.

And I am MESMERIZED by ScarJo's double-snap. Is that bad foley work or is her hand just that crazy fast?

Funny how lots of people who aren't familiar with the comic think it looks cool, while everyone who is thinks it's bad news. I'm not sure what the significance of that is - it doesn't mean it's necessarily gonna be a bad movie, but why bother making it an adaptation of the comic if you're gonna make it nothing like it? Why not make a Miller original? It just seems to me to be ridiculously far from the spirit (ha ha!) of the original - and coincidentally very closely aligned with the spirit of Sin City.

I confess that I haven't read the graphic novel, but this looks like a fun movie to watch, in the spirit of 300. (pun not intended) And yes, I would...tear...Scarlett...Johansson...up! :)

My first guess is that Sam Jackson is playing that quirky villain who likes to dress up in different costumes to match his mood. He's so saucy, I love it. :)

Eh. I really like the Spirit, but the trailer makes it look like the entire plot revolves around a gang of sluts.

Also: why can you see the Octopus? Shouldn't it just be his hands?

@ 18:

probably because if you just saw his hands and heard Samuel L's voice, you'd be like, 'That's Samuel L. Jackson! I know that motherf*ckin' voice anywhere!'

I know nothing about the comment but this really didn't do anything for me....it still looks way too much like Sin City to me.

Damnit, I meant I know nothing about the comic....not comment.

@19: Following that logic, all he ever needs to show in any movie are his hands. You don't even need to see him to know ho he is!

Oh, I'm just being belligerent.

ewwww
i am a big spirit fan,,read all the comics,,and uhg this doesnt look too good,
why do they have to put Samuel lJackson in every goddamn movie? hes not that good, cmon,,

#12 - perfect, spot-on.
Life is short; think I'd rather marvel @ Eisner's work for a while than sit through 2 hours of this - the trailer is all the time I want to spend on it...

Is that Eva Mendes?

Was that Sam Jackson playin the Simion guy fro Dexter?

I think you defenitely mean eva mendes not eva longoria.

hi, anyone know who made the music running on this trailer??????

Hybrid:Choke. I love that song.

The only reason I know this character is that it has ties to Batman in varying ways and that I saw the comic being used as an example in an old "How to Ink the Comic Book way" book.

The comics themselves weren't that much to holler about but, it did have some decent amounts of death and violence for a comic in its day.

Yeah, this trailer is looking more Sin City to me still. I mean stylized scenes, hot woman in random exchanges of black and white and color with painfully cheesy names and a cast of nearly all A list stars?

And not to mention they brought along Samuel L Jackson who seems to have the fashion sense of a raving schizophrenic just in case the sheer lunacy of things didn't blow your mind already.

I'm not looking forward to this being raved as a great piece of modern cinema but I will see it because yes, Scarlet Johansson is a woman I would tear up as well and having Eva Mendes naked on camera is never a bad thing really.

I've been putting off watching this after the original 'teaser trailer' thing...but...um...o_________O. When did the Spirit become a man-whore and why even with their newfound stripper-like intent do the women move so...un-smoothly. The whole thing is sort of disjointed and jerky looking...the movements, the greenscreen effects...

want to touch Eva Mendes. Inappropriately.

Why is Eva LONGORIA listed in the tags? Is she in the movie? I thought it was Eva MENDES?

Anyone know the name of this song? I really, really dig it!

@15, i don't think so, i watched closer and she only really snaps once there and definitely not that fast i bet they just doubled it up for the preview. Cool effect though - shes amazing. (just, really can't sing)

Frank Miller was so wrong for this project, this trailer looks like runny, oddly colored donkey-shit.
I'm mad and sad now

Anyone else thinks she looks just like Ginger from Gilligans island???
