Jul 2 2008Sacha Baron Cohen/Will Ferrell Sherlock Holmes Comedy is, Frankly, Hilarious?
Columbia Pictures has announced plans for a comedy that will star Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell as (probably idiot versions of) Sherlock Holmes and Watson. Now, hold on, hold on. I know you're thinking this sounds like another typically-broad, pointless comedy "from the guys who brought us" prior Will Ferrell man-child outings. In other words, a bad idea. You couldn't be more wrong. It turns out the very notion of Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell playing Sherlock Holmes is enough to induce riotous laughter:
"Just the idea of Sacha and Will as Sherlock Holmes and Watson makes us laugh," said Col co-prexy Matt Tolmach. "Sacha and Will are two of the funniest and most talented guys on the planet, and having them take on these two iconic characters is frankly hilarious."
I guess that is pretty funny, if you're a sadist.

I REALLY hope Sacha is the lead role- he doesn't deserve to be a back seat to Will Ferrel, he doesn't suck yet. And he's English! Damn! They're so sick, they never get old

Oh no. This is going to be awful.
Will Farrell and stupid hair does not a funny movie make.

Peter Cook and Dudley Moore were, frankly, hilarious, and when they played Sherlock Holmes and Watson it was a disaster. I'm not saying it's going to happen again, I'm just saying I'll wait for a little while before rolling around in a preemptive ball of mirth.

I could actually imagine SBC as Sherlock, in a twisted way. Will Ferrel as Watson just wouldn't work, though--he doesn't look the part at all.

I'll watch it just to count how many times whichever of them plays Sherlock says, "elementary, my dear Watson." I'm guessing it's going to be a lot. Could be the makings of a future drinking game in the works...

Mock me mercilessly, but I think this could be pretty good with a good director and if Cohen plays Holmes.
SBC seems like a real professional and rather cerebral in his idiotic-ness that playing the straight man to ferrell's apish buffoonery would come out genius-level.

Wow- a chance for Will Ferrell to play an idiot. We've NEVER seen that before.

In addition, i want to inform you that someone here is keeping saying you are seeking a woman on interracialchatting.com recently.. maybe you need to stop the slurring!

What is mariama on about? Why Will Ferrell? Do we need another Holmes comedy?
So many questions, so few answers.

Randall, Watson wasn't an idiot. He was a war veteran and medical doctor, he was competent and intelligent - he just wasn't Sherlock Holmes - a character who invented his own profession to alleviate his boredom. When there wasn't cocaine around, anyway.
A rocket scientist would look like a bumbling idiot if he was similarly out of his element.

As much as it pains me to say it, I laughed hysterically through Blades of Glory and Ferrell's WC cameo. I hate his idiot man-child thing like in Elf/Semi-Pro/etc, but I like his idiot man-child womanizer thing. It's just funny -- fuck it.
So, it would be funny to see Watson as a womanizing man-child.
