Jul 11 2008'Outlander' Trailer: Classic Battle of Vikings Vs. Alien Beast Finally Visualized

outlander-trailer.jpg

Attention to all my friends: you know all those long, stupid conversations we have where we ask each other pointless questions and debate them ad nauseam--like if X-Men's Beast could take Donkey Kong in a fight, or how many toddlers Mike Tyson could take out (in a hypothetical environment of infinite toddlers) before succumbing to fatigue and ultimately being overtaken? Well, someone has been bugging those conversations, and they're now releasing one of them as a movie that you'd think would be a Sci Fi Channel original but isn't. It's the scenario where we were like, "OK, how about like a full viking army versus this really awesome space dragon? BUT, the vikings have Ron Pearlman and a futuristic humanoid who once played Jesus on their side."

Thanks to Hal for the link.

this looks .... not so good.

wow, i was gonna make a comment about Karl Urban becoming typecasted faster than his career, but apparantly its not him.
I sure hope for Caviezel it payed off.

and:
This is the first film in history to feature old Norse, an almost dead language. Howard McCain used an Icelandic professor to help translate the dialogue and to teach the actors how to speak the ancient language.

and from the trailer these vikings seem to come from London or so..

Awww, why couldn't this be a version of Gabaldon's "Outlander," with hot 18th-century Scotsmen, timetraveling women, and lots and lots of sex? Instead we get space dragons.

Gay! That is all I am saying.

This looks surprisingly watchable. You all lose this round idiots.

from "lord of the ring" producer
you see space dragon film

Well, it sort of looks bad, sort of interesting. I also love how everyone, no matter the time or country, speak English with an English accent.

Caviezel looks kind of hot, too.

I might see it, it's not directed Uwe Boll or Brett Ratner, so maybe.

It can't be any worse than Reign of Fire, where the whole "dragon vs. fighter plane" scenario was played out. I still don't see how the dragons won against heat-seeking missles, but whatever.

Beowulf vs. Predator

Wait, thats not Karl Urban? Well damn, no reason to see it then.

@8: There are a number of reasons dragons could win against heat seeking missiles...

1: Greater agility. Even heat-seeking missiles travel on a relatively straight path and could be easily dodged by a living creature with wings and good reflexes.
2: Fire-breath could be used to detonate the missile before it reaches its target.
3: Natural armor (debatable - depends on type of dragon and type of missile)
4: Maybe the whole fire-breath thing could be used to create some sort of countermeasure, like a fireball-flare or smoke-chaff. Just thinkin'.
5: Wing buffet to blow the missile off-course? (it's a D&D thing)
6: Dragons are awesome.

Anyway, what's this guy doing impersonating Karl Urban, and what's "Lord of the Ring"? Although I fully support both Vikings and Space Dragons as awesome, this looks highly uninteresting.

The Vikings have Ron Pearlman? Game over Space Dragon, game over...

This is the movie Star Knight should have been. Probably.

from the guy who brought you the lighting from the 1989 batman comes....

I'm going to wait and see how this plays out before I relinquish it to the dumper.

This movie is based on a true story!
no joke

@11 "depends on the type of dragon"
?! Hate to break this to you pal but... dragons are not real!

I am waiting with bated breath until this comes out. I'll watch the hell out of it.

I saw this on a torrent, it Rocks good film
