Jul 30 2008Marvin the Martian to be Given the Ol' Chipmunks Treatment
Hey, a Marvin the Martian movie? That's a cartoon from my childhood I could tolerate seeing on the screen. I mean, as long as it's not in the live-action meets revolting CGI style of Alvin and the Chipmunks or Garfield. Of course it is:
Warner Bros. is launching development of a "Marvin the Martian" feature at Alcon Entertainment, with principals Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove producing along with Steve Crystal.Project will blend live action and CGI.
Crystal, a former Warner exec with a first-look deal at Alcon through his Charlie Co. banner, developed the pitch as a Christmas story, with Marvin coming to Earth to destroy Christmas but being prevented from doing so when he’s trapped in a gift box.
Does anyone else think the idea of Marvin destroying Christmas, rather than just blowing up the earth, makes him a far more despicable character? You can want to blow up a planet because of comically inflated delusions of grandeur, but wanting to destroy Christmas (whatever "destroying" Christmas would actually entail)? That's just being an asshole.
Johnson and Kosove told Daily Variety that "Marvin" will be aimed at the family demo along the same lines as Alcon’s "Racing Stripes" and "My Dog Skip."
Thank you for providing the demographics in the only language I understand: Frankie Muniz movies. That clears up a misunderstanding I had where I thought this was going for an Agent Cody Banks-as-a-martian thing.

Oh, for shits sake. Another childhood memory destroyed by Hollywood pinheads. They could at least give it a nice Wall-E style treatment. Instead we'll get something so idiotic that not even little kids want to see it, and it'll go to DVD after about 2 days.

Marvin the Martian is a tree-huggin', baby killin', Christmas-destroyin' liberal. I knew it all along.

Shouldn't Bugs Bunny be involved somewhere? I mean, wasn't the Martian always a secondary character? When did he become worthy of carrying the lead? Am I taking it too seriously since in reality I could care less?

Marvin creator Chuck Jones has to be spinning like the Tasmanian Devil in his grave.
