Jul 29 2008Johnny Depp Probably Playing Mad Hatter

johnny-depp-wonka.jpg

As if it weren't a foregone conclusion, rumor is Johnny Depp will again put on a top hat and uncomfortably childish persona to play the Mad Hatter in Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland:

Johnny Depp is to play the Mad Hatter in a new version of 'Alice in Wonderland'.

The 'Sleepy Hollow' actor is teaming up with director Tim Burton again for the movie, a re-imagining of the classic children's tale.

A source said: "Tim has had designs on 'Alice in Wonderland' since before he was famous.

Normally I wouldn't put much stock into a gossip columns, but this seems so obvious it probably has to be true, and unnamed "sources" never lie.

IMDB should really just add a permanent addendum to Depp's listing: "Also, he'll probably be in a Tim Burton movie playing an undetermined gothic character." And while you're at it, IMDB, stop treating chimps like actors.

Ah yes, Johnny Depp. Best known for his role in Sleepy Hollow. What?

I thought this was about the next Batman for a minute.

man me too i was like holy shit they confirmed him in batman 3???

WAY TO LET ME DOWN I WATCH STUFF GUY.

Works for me. I can see it.

Another role Depp can use Keith Richards as a model for.

Lol, I do believe Depp once said he'd "Have sex with an aardvark if one of Burton's movie required it" :p Should be good, can't wait to see the costumes...

***for the Alice movie not for an aardvark sex scene

Nathan Bedford Forrest, eh? Civil war generals/Grand Imperial Wizards have risen from the dead and are making stupid jokes on movie blogs? Sounds like a good movie to me.

"The South Shall Rise Again" was not an ad campaign for some ED product.

And that would be a better movie than "Anaconda 3", at least.

can tim burton please die already? please?

GRRRRRR i thought this was batman news.

Tim Burton's a fucking hack who's been phoning it in for years.

I hope Helena Bonham Carter gets the role of crazy yet busty female caterpillar.

Tim Burton's doing Alice in Wonderland? Okay, expect Alice to have oily and dark hair, heavy mascara, pale white skin, and black clothing. .

I would bet money that Helena will be playing the Queen of Hearts.

I like it that people are upset this isn't Batman news, considering that Carroll's work is an absolute classic, the Mad Hatter is hardly an obscure character in it, and the Batman character is directly based on Carroll's. I'm a huge fan of comics, but get some appreciation of literature, people! Jeez. ;)

why do you asswipes have to shit on Tim Burton all the time???

Amy: I doubt the disappointment this isn't Batman news has anything to do with a lack of appreciation for Alice in Wonderland. TDK just happens to be something of a cinematic phenomenon right now, and when one mentions the Mad Hatter to Batman fans they're obviously going to be wired to think of Batman. Besides Johnny Depp as the Batman Mad Hatter would actually be quite spectacular as well... if a little too weird for Nolan's movies.

NICE! My friend recommended me a very interesting place ☆☆☆"NYwealthyMatch . c o m""""""""☆☆☆ If you’ve ever been there you will know what I mean….

Yeah, what 17 said. I was gonna say that to defend myself. I wasn't disappointed about the fact that it was Alice in Wonderland news. Just disappointed that it WASN'T Batman 3 news.

Johnny Depp in a Tim Burton film? Really, you do go on. Next thing you'll be telling me Helena Bonham Carter and Deep Roy will be in it, while Danny Elfman will do the soundtrack!

Although, realistically he could probably get away with casting Deep Roy as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dumb.

I agree, I'm expecting to see Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen, at the very least.

I like Burton, but god, would it kill him to be less predictable? I'm sure his Alice in Wonderland will be very true to his style and I expect to see Hot Topic carrying teeshirts for it in a month.

You people make me laugh. Obviously you have nothing better to do than sit here and complain about Depp and Burton. Yes, it will probabbly be odd, and yes they've worked on like six or so films together, but come on. What person (female especially) in their right mind wouldn't want someone like Depp to play the Hatter? His personality seems really funny and goofy. Someone who you can hang out with and then, just turn into an amazing and witty character on screen. I personally am a HUGE fan of Johnny and also of a lot of Burton's work. I also own a lot of "Pirates" and some "Corpse Bride" shirts from Hot Topic and just because I like some of their clothes, does that make me "gothic"? No. I just appreciate the work (Johnny's especially) that they put into a role and film. So there. "Stick that in your pipe and smoke it!" and "A very merry un-birthday to you! Yes you!"-Mad Hatter (LOL)

when is it supposed to come out?

PirateFane.

You're a fucking retard.

Moving on,

Like someone previously stated, Burton has had dreams of this since before his name got out there.
Alice is fitting for Burton to work with, and so what the fuck if he uses the same actors in a majority of his films? They're damn good actors, and if it works, it works. You like something/someone, you apply it where it fits. And as similar as some of the roles may be, they are still diverse, and I think this is going to be incredible. I hope he goes all out and really does some good with this.

But I do agree, all his recent, somewhat overrated fame has tainted his name, along with the bullshit merchandise. Doesn't face the fact that he is still a damn good director.

Some of you seem to be forgetting that Burton directed Big Fish. Alics in Wonderland is right up his alley.

And as for the Batman news, yes, I was expecting this to be Batman news. But I'm not disappointed it wasn't. And I'd rather see Depp as Riddler, anyway. Tim Roth should be the Hatter for Batman.
