Jul 22 2008Ebert, Roeper Replaced by These Guys
Yesterday, it was announced that both Richard Roeper and Roger Ebert would be leaving At the Movies with Ebert and Roeper. But that doesn't mean ABC is abandoning the format of two guys talking about movies that has kept viewers casually watching when nothing else on! Variety reports that At the Movies will forge on, replacing the Sun-Times reviewers with a host from Turner Classic Movies and an E! critic who makes appearances on Good Morning America and the esteemed Access Hollywood. Also, satellites will be involved:
Disney ABC’s venerable weekly TV review show “At the Movies” confirmed Tuesday that Ben Lyons and Ben Mankiewicz will co-host the next iteration of the series when its 23rd season begins the weekend of Sept. 6. On Monday, Chicago Sun-Times staffers Roger Ebert and Richard Roeper quit the series.“At the Movies” also plans to introduce a new look and segments to the show in September, including a “Critics Round-Up” during which the co-hosts will engage with other critics via satellite from cities across the country.
To further update the long-running series, the name will be changed to Who the Hell Are These Guys & Why Are They at the Movies?

Went to Ben Lyons party at the hard rock cafe that he hosts every Saturday with some other douches in Vegas. Ben was in this VIP area with his friends and fellow hosts and some hussies. One of them thought my girl friend was hot and invited us into the VIP area, were I had free grey goose all night.. Thank god because a double at this place cost like $18.
Anyways his friends think the best and easiest way to get laid and get with girls is to offer them a bunch of blow if they come to their hotel room. Classic douche bags.

From what I've seen of him, that sounds about right.

judging by this flaming pile of shit new format they're going for, it's easy to see why Roeper and Ebert wanted out.
4. Meg - July 22, 2008 4:36 PM
At least the guy on the left is kind of hot.
5. Meg - July 22, 2008 4:38 PM
Crap, did I say left? I mean right! Right one is hot!
6. emily - July 22, 2008 5:10 PM
Oh yeah, I recognize the guy on the left. He's the one I fast forward through at the beginning of the movies I tivo on TCM. The one on the right looks like a younger, gayer Richard Roeper. I like Richard Roeper, but when was the last time Roger Ebert was actually on that show? There have been guest hosts for what seems like a couple of years.

Why the hell would I want movie advice from a guy whose pubes haven't grown in yet?

A better name for this turkey might be Who the Hell are These Guys & Why are they at the Movies & Who Gives a Crap!

Let me guess: They needed these guys in place so they could give two thumbs up to Disney's "Beverly Hills Chihuahua". They'll tell you it's the "feel good movie of the year" while sittling behind a couple of cups of McDonalds coffee...

I was really starting to enjoy Roeper and Phillips and now everything is ruined.

emily - Ebert's been unable to talk for the past two years because of his thyroid cancer. NOW DON'T YOU FEEL BAD. Well, you should! Start feeling bad right now, young lady!
It's kind of cool that they're getting someone young, I guess. I don't know anything about these guys, and I imagine most people will be following Ebert and Roeper to their new show.

Dammit! I watch this show every week. One of my favourites. I really hope Roeper and Phillips get their own show, and these 2 douches get cancelled before their first show goes to air. Go to hell Disney ABC execs!

I don't see the tragedy here and you will all get used to the new guys in time. Personally I haven't watched the show since the original guys anyway.
More importantly, @1, why don't you post a pic of your GF and let us decide if she's hot? Preferably a NSFW picture if you have one.

These two shit apes won't last a year before people with real credentials replace them.
Jesus, is the era of the douchy looking guy or what?

"We made television history, and established the trademarked catch-phrase 'Two thumbs up.' The trademark still belongs to me and Marlene Iglitzen, Gene's widow, and the thumbs will return. We are discussing possibilities, and plan to continue the show's tradition." -Ebert, http://rogerebert.suntimes.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080721/FEATURED/150028057

@ 16
I know he was sick. That doesn't change the fact that I was perplexed as to why the show still had his name when he hadn't been there for two years. Seems to me like it's a perfectly legitimate question. Now don't you feel retarded for pointing out something that doesn't answer that question? Start feeling retarded right now!

Ebert's name was still associated with the show because he owned the show's trademarks and still actually worked pretty closely behind the scenes with the show's main producer, in spite of his cancer.
In my opinion, I think this is probably for the best, but still think it's kind of sad overall. I'll follow Roeper to the new show because he's had so much work and influence from Ebert. I still read Ebert in print, and hopefully that won't change for the foreseeable future.
