Jul 18 2008Compare 'Watchmen' the Comic to 'Watchmen' the Trailer with Unnecessary Accuracy!
Whether the Watchmen trailer was hated or loved, nothing will stop the time-honored geek tradition of meticulously comparing the nerdy adaptation with its original, nerdy source, noting where any and all deviations took place and if these alterations were necessary and/or spoilers. Thankfully, Ropes of Silicon has taken a step to make this persnickety analysis easier: side-by-side comparisons between the trailer and the equivalent comic panels. Similarities range from "Holy shit, that looks exactly the same!" to "Hey, where's his penis!? Not that I'm gay."

okay, now i think it's confirmed.....when i watched the trailer yesterday, i SWORE i saw the Twin Towers.....then i thought i was just seeing things...but now, if you look at the pic of Night Owl's ship, that definitely looks a lot like the towers in the back right.........anyone else think this? if not, don't rag on me.....we'll chalk it up to my nearsightedness.....

that goes to prove that making film versions of comic books are never easy.

nevermind....i did some research.....thought they had updated this to take place in our time....it's still set in the 80s, towers would still be there......my bad....

Why wouldn't the WTC be there? It's set in 1985.

When I saw the trailer before The Dark Knight (Wednesday night!) I could have sworn I saw glow-y junk up on that IMAX screen. Next scene, little blue panties.
Did I mention I saw The Dark Knight on Wednesday on IMAX?

Being someone who has read it over 20 times over the last 20 years and been seriously obsessed with it, I can safely say Zach Snyder has worked very hard to make the nerds happy as clams. The only nerds who won't like it are nerds who won't like ANYTHING that is attempted. And they can go to h e double hocky sticks.

I am amazed. The comparisons of the comic and movie shots are practically identical. Hopefully those aren't the only things that are the same. I read some of the Watchmen and can't say I will be a harsh critic on the movie. But I have high hopes for the film.
