Special effects guru Stan Winston, who worked most recently on Iron Man and the new Terminator, has died following a seven-year battle with cancer. From the LA Times:

The Oscar-winning visual effects artist died at his home Sunday evening surrounded by family after a seven-year struggle with multiple myeloma, according to a representative from Stan Winston Studio.

Winston won visual effects Oscars for 1986's "Aliens, "1992's "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" and 1993's "Jurassic Park."

Tonight I shall watch his work on Monster Squad in tribute. (Thanks for the tip, Louie.)

I think it is intentional, but this photograph is distracting.
I'd prefer it if the t-rex wasnt eating his head.

What a gyp. He died of cancer after surviving that brutal surprise tyrannosaurus attack.

So sorry to hear about the loss. This pioneering genius in the special effects industry will be greatly missed.

I'm so sad to hear this. Stan Winston was a hero of mine. Very sad news indeed.

One of the greatest special effects artist gone. Now its all the more excuse for studios to beef up the CGI... damn it I miss a movie full of practical effects and true talent... not to say that CGI artists arent talented... they just seem less so that the hands on rubber, metal, synthetic hair, plastic and corn syrup mixed with red 40... Stan, you will be missed.

sorry for the 600 typos... i'm beside myself with grief.

WATCH OUT FOR THE- *guy gets eaten*

The monster squad is like my favorite movie ever - i always knew a master craftsman had to be behind that black hole at the end. Oh, and those other movies have some good effects too, i guess. i guess.

RIP Stan. You were the last of a dieing breed. We loved you.

Not to be unkind, but if someone can get access to a cell sample it would help me with my plans to clone up a batch and bring to fruition my lifelong dream of opening a Stan Winston Park.

RIP Stan. You will always be one of my heroes.

:ยด(

Best wishes to his son Matt and the rest of the family...

Stan was a living legend with his own star of the Walk of Fame. His talent and skill will be missed....

God bless....

Rest In Peace Stan, you were the inspiration for me to go into special effects and animation.
A true artist and a Genius of his field.

Truly the end of an era. Bring on the gaudy god awful cgi bullshit. We'll never see creature design and fx like that again.

Oh man, this is sad.

Monster Squad is amazing.
