Jun 13 2008Marvel Wants DiCaprio, Pitt for 'Captain America'
In "yeah, I bet you would" news: Marvel Studios reportedly wants Leonardo DiCaprio to play the lead in the Captain America movie they have planned for 2011. But, recognizing they might not be able to get him, the studio is willing to settle for like a Brad Pitt or whatever. No, that's seriously what they're saying.
Are either of these reasonable possibilities? I know superhero movies are getting pretty big-name leads lately, but I really can't see (and don't want to see) Leonardo DiCaprio putting on a hood with wings on it. Unless the movie were about a mentally handicapped guy who wore a hood with wings as part of an endearing schtick, in which case I could totally see him taking that role. Whatever--it's weekend time!

We already got a watery eyed, tard face, dork for Spider-Man. Let's not have a baby face Cap.

While Brad would probably be wary due to his wife's experience with the Tomb Raider movies and Wanted, Leo's too busy fucking up another fanboy icon with the live-action Akira remake anyway.
3. Annearchist - June 13, 2008 9:49 PM
Too bad Christian Bale's already busy with Batman and Val Kilmer's association with Batman Forever makes him an unlikely choice as well.
What about Matt Damon or Russell Crowe?
4. Annearchist - June 13, 2008 9:51 PM
Or let's go way out there and get Henry Rollins to do it.
5. Snoodle - June 14, 2008 1:15 AM
It's a possibility...but they're both awfully busy at the moment....do they fear it will suck, is that why they want some seriously big names :p?

With Leo's environmental concerns, I think he'd make a much better Captain Planet. Who's with me?
7. Brandon - June 14, 2008 2:27 PM
I say Matt Damon should do it...he's already done the super government weapon who is a fragmented character due to loss of memory and life experience in the Bourne films. Being a super government weapon who fights nazi scum and then gets frozen in an ice berg for 40 some odd years before making a comback in the 21st century should be no problem.

I agree with Brandon. They should do the whole fish-out-of-water story line. Anachronisms and all.

LOL ROFLMAO...(wipes tears from eyes) that's a good one you guys crack me up! Leo as Cap ahhhh that was funny! SERIOUSLY NOW...NO LEO for Cap A movie. I agree with #3 Matt Damon (if he pumped up a bit) would be a great choice he could really make it work if he committed. Look wise another actor springs to mine Ben Browder (Farscape, StargateSG1) if he can lose that southern accent thing.
10. Anthony - June 14, 2008 6:41 PM
How about Patrick Wilson?
11. Nick - June 15, 2008 12:21 AM
Matt Damon would be terrible. So would Pitt or DiCaprio, but in saying that I can't think of anyone better. Hopefully an unknown dude gets cast.

Mark Valley = Captain America

I think whomever the studio exe's pick, will be a good match for the role regardless. They have struck gold twice with RDJ and Edward Norton in the roles of superheroes, im sure they'll do it again with cap.

Also, it's not always best to elect an actor for a role based on their physical appearance. Just because they may tend to look like a fictional character doesn't mean they can embody the personality of one.

I think Pitt would be the IDEAL actor to portray Captain America. I really hope Leo realizes he horrible and would say no. Now Damon could pull it off im sure as could Bale but prefer him as Batman anyday. Maybe go a whole different route with it and get Will Smith to do it . Rappin Cap , see how it flows .
16. Tori - June 15, 2008 7:54 PM
I don't think Leo would even want the role. Brad Pitt probably would, but I pray it's not him. Damon could be cool though.

I'm influenced by the cheesy 80's Captain America and Flash Gordon movies. In the comics and in those movies, the Cap always looked like an old-school quarterback. He LOOKED like a brick wall in human form, heavy but agile.
Russell Crowe: He would look odd as a blonde, grizzled WWII veteran and not confident about him pulling off the appropriate accent. Though to his credit he definitely can look like the idealised brick wall as we saw in Gladiator.
Leonardo will always seem to have the physique of a matchstick to me. He also looks like a boy.
Brad Pitt: I really can't say. He's never played a superhero or anything like one.
Matt Damon: If he can pull off looking like a brick wall, I think it could work. Clever lighting, makeup can do the rest. There will be no question about his acting ability as long as the script is good.
How about Vince Vaughn? He's tall, he's big and an enforced diet and weight training regime can only improve it. He's never done anything but comedy but why not? Jim Carrey and Robin WIlliams are proof that comedians can do serious roles. A little bleach, add some Robert Redford facial skin imperfections, make his eyes ice-blue....in a mask - and you know they'll modernize it - in a mask he's going to look pretty intimidating.

Patrick Warburton! Or, maybe Willie Aames...

I don't really know who I'd want to be the Cap. He's a favorite of mine, and as much as I like DiCaprio, he'd only make a good pre-super soldier serum cap. If Marvel hadn't already (poorly) tapped Tom Jane to play The Punisher, I think he would make a good Cap. He's got the boyish charm of Cap, while still being rugged looking. Hell, he's not the Punisher anymore. I say toss him the shield.

Leo portraying America's greatest comic book hero?
I'd rather shoot myself in the testicles that watch that. Boo...
21. Brianna - June 16, 2008 9:58 AM
I actually heard that Brad Pitt was interested in playing Thor, which I think would be wayyyy more suited for him.
As for Matt Damon, ugh. I want my superheroes to NOT be ugly as shit, thank you very much.
22. Brianna - June 16, 2008 10:05 AM
Also, if I had to pick an actor I'd want to see play Captain America, I think Nathan Fillion would do a really great job!
23. Elmo - June 16, 2008 12:11 PM
Yuk they're both sooooo gross, thank God I would never go to see this movie anyway
24. Jayfournines - June 16, 2008 12:11 PM
I think i'm on the Matt Damon bandwagon on this one
25. Christian - June 16, 2008 1:10 PM
If we're wanting to go for completely outside the normal hollywood box, concerning look I don't know anyone who could pull it off better than John Cena. Really quick with ridiculous almost cartoony build. Acting would be an interesting gamble though. And he was in the military. At least somethings line up. Leo does it and I'll sign the petition to boycot.
26. pdrunk - June 16, 2008 3:42 PM
Joe Piscopo! Huh? Huh?
No, seriously, Matt Damon would be a better choice. He can play the frail Cap and then the later cap. But my first bet would be Patrick Warburton. He can pull off the whole "My country rocks your countries' asses" thing. Maybe Leo can play Bucky or better yet, he might be good as the Red Skull.

We need an all AMERICAN actor to be Captain America. Now We need some one like Clint Eastwood. Only 20 years younger. Or some one bad ass, but I mean bad ass.
28. Mycroft - June 16, 2008 6:01 PM
Russell Crowe???
An aussi as cpt. america? Please go kill yourself.
29. MrGutts - June 17, 2008 6:45 AM
Ok serious? Marvel is smoking some serious shit.
I can't picture Leo tossing a shield, let alone just lift one. We need a muscle bound jar head to play the Military part! We need someone who is gonna to kick some ass and chew bubblegum at the same time!
