At this point it looks like Hollywood has seriously taken it upon itself to rape my childhood raw. Nice make up work there on Master Roshi, you couldnt sahve that asshole's head put a beard on his chin and get him $3 sunglasses from CVS?What about that Douchebag playing Goku. this is fucking dragonball. Goku is supposed to be 5 years old, I would have settles for 10 or even 14 years old this dick is 29. I can't wait to see the movie so the ligitimase of my masochism has a rock solid foundation. This is to Dragon Ball what Wanted is to The Matrix. rape on hollywood, rape on. . .

The second asian girl above chow yun fat is Mai.

Mai is Emperor Pilaf's female half-wit follower. She always works with Shu and although she's quite intelligent (even more so in FUNimation's dub), the two of them always manage to screw stuff up. She's a beautiful, calculating enemy who always resorts to weaponry and high-tech.

the third one is probably lunch. she was pretty much ignored in the american anime run. usually sweet natured but then turns into a bitch when she sneezes. i love dragon ball, but this looks god awful. cant wait to see it.

At least the girls are cute, but . . . yeah. Garbage movie, terrible adaptation. The spindly dork playing Goku looks nothing like him, and 1) For god's sake what is Chow Yun Fat doing in such a terrible move and 2) why is he playing master roshi, while having not a single feature of the character in his costume. Boggling.

Chow Yun Fat is super dreamy, but he looks like an even more botoxed George Takei in this poster (bad photoshopping!). But I guess he doesn't look too bad, especially when he's next to the proportionally challanged face of the guy who's copying Ryan Seacrest's 'do from 5 years ago. I'm not too big on Dragonballzzzzzz, but why is he white?

the third girl is mai. goto imdb.com and take a look at the main cast...there's only two asian girls and one is chichi, the other is mai. hell the wig is even somewhat similar to the haircut on the show....

My feelings for the show were 75% positive. After this poster.....I think around 40% positive would be pushing it.

This just looks cheesy as all hell. Straight to DVD. Its 2008, movies should be and stick 100% to its original origin. This movie strays from it in the most hideous ways.

I actually read the manga when i was into it and the lady with the gun is probably lunch, roshi's guest. she was a little violent for the cartoon, but I'm betting it's her. besides that the other 2 are anyone's guess.

Even though the subject matter of this film is of Asian origin the main character was an alien, so it doesn't really matter if he looks Asian or not...I'm more concerned about him not being able to pull off believable martial arts action than whether or not he's Asian.

I understand your point, but remember that this is supposed to be dragonball, not DBZ. dragonball is an adaptation of the old Chinese fable, Son Wu Kong and the journey west (or Saiyuki or Son Goku in japanese). The main characters are deeply rooted in Asian mythology, for the most part, and so they should be Asian. They don't really even explore his alien roots until DBZ, so justin chatwin should be Asian, technically. It doesn't really bother me though; what does bother me is his weird v-neck abercrombie shirt with chinese lettering on it. Sup with that?

1) Goku is not the only white person in this film. HELLO, Emmy Rossum plays Bulma and she is very blatantly caucasian. You even see that in the poster.

2) This "GOKU IS ASIAN" crap is hilarious. As if it really matters who the hell plays Goku. They are trying to open this film up to a Western audience. They are trying to incorporate other races. I think it's about time that Japanese filmmakers at least tried to incorporate a race other than Japanese. Besides, I don't care what his bone structure/colour of skin/colour of hair is, as long as he can fucking POW someone in the face with martial arts.

3) Honestly, I don't know why Yun-Fat Chow is in this film, but I'll deal with it. They probably paid him a pretty penny. At least I'll get to see his lovely face on screen when I watch it.

Nice point but you're a little off there. It'd be nice for Japanese Anime-makers to incorporate JAPANESE people. I mean come on, whens the last time you seen an asian person with naturally blue hair.

That being said i'm not really gonna cast judgment on the guy yet because i'm not really familiar with his work but I get a feeling that Goku just isn't going to be 'Goku' in this show, because he's looking a little too emo in that shot. The normal Goku would have a stupid omfg-I-have-a-dragonball-in-my-hands smile on his face, and that always made for an entertaining show.

The third girl at the top is Mai. The girl with the gun is Bulma. If you go to the Dragonball website, they have pages for each character telling you who is who.

Anyway, this movie is going to suck ass. The more I see of it, the more is looks like a strange remake Dragonball: The Legend Begins....the other live action DB movie.

I agree with a few people on here. Goku never did look asian other than the black hair. Aside from that, he's not even from Earth so who the hell cares what race he is?

Chow Yun Fat is still a hell of an actor and martial artist so I think his background will carry him through this movie without too many people crying about it. I don't see him being as goofy as Master Roshi though.

Actually I really don't see anyone in this movie being as goofy as the characters in the original were. There's just something about the way they did things that always had a reason to laugh behind it.

I'm definitely going to watch this movie when it comes out. It'll be interesting to see how they bring it to life, regardless of it's relevance to the original. There will no doubt be lots of eye and ear candy to keep people watching.

Although I don't really agree with Chatwin being cast as goku, mainly on the age, Goku is an alien after all so it would be kind of weird if he looked like everyone else on the planet he happened to hit, even if its just the locals.

Chow Yun-Fat must have a 'never does bald dudes' clause in his contracts. Never seen him with a shiny dome despite it being a staple martial arts cliche. Still though, grow beard for crying out loud!

im a HUGE DB, DBZ, DBGT fan and i can honestly say yes this movie is gonna suck elephant dick but still its a movie, any true fan knows nothing can destroy the legacy of the DragonBall universe. chatwin in my opinion is a good actor and prolly the only thing this movie has going for it other than piccolo. they should have done it like final fantasy 7 advent childeren a straight up cgi movie featuring the original english voice cast to voice the charactors, that would be the only true way to make a dragonball movie. so pretty much even tho its gonna suck nuts i am going to see it in costume to show the true spirit of a super saiyan lol

This poster is ridiculous. No one looks right. Bulma doesn't have blue hair, roshi has hair but no shades, Goku's hair isn't black and he's wearing a T-shirt! The only people who would consider watching a Dragonball movie are Dragonball fans, and I don't think any Dragonball fans would see it based on this poster. I hate to say it but this poster looks terrible; it's like a bad rip-off of what could've been a good movie. If the movie is equally as bad, we should expect this on DVD about a month after it's released to theaters (if it's not straight to DVD). What a waste of a franchise.

This movie lookings insanely amazing. I will see it opening night. I've waited ten years for a DB movie. What we SHOULD do is get this bitch past Titanic in Box Office Gross so they make enough sequels to get to DBZ, give in, and make it exactly like the show. Most movies that do well have sequels. Like Titanic 2, coming out in 2012.

Is it so HARD for hollywood to stay on course with the original storyline? Isn't the original look what fans fell in love with anyway? Vegeta- Jet Li
Piccolo- Micheal Clark Duncan (Green Mile, Kung Fu Panda, Last Mimzi)
Master Yoshi- James Hong(Kung Fu Panda, Balls of Fury, Blade Runner)

This reminds me of how they casted Halle Berry to play storm when everyone who is a true X-Men fan knows Storm is one of the oldest X-men besides Logan...so naturally the best person who should have played the role was Angela Bassett!
