Jun 11 2008'Babylon A.D.' Trailer: Like Every Other Sci-Fi-Action You've Seen, with Vin Diesel
Babylon A.D. appears to be built entirely around a couple guys guessing what a sci-fi action movie might look like based entirely on the few they've seen.
"'Babylon A.D.' sounds like a sci-fi movie, right?"
"Yeah, I think so. Let's call it that. Babylon A.D.... so sweet."
"Yeah, I know. And there should be a city like that Blade Runner city. That was sci-fi, right?"
"Yeah, totally. And there should be a part where you see a guy in a car, and then it turns out that car is being carried by a helicopter for some reason--like because it's the future."
"And the guy in the car is Vin Diesel!"
"Obviously."
"Let's make it!"
Is there another explanation for this?

Even the initials spell out "B.A.D." You could not even make that up.

Looks like Vin Diesel is rollin' a "future J"

As cheesy as that was, (lol'd at the "requiem for a dream" background music) I must admit I was intrigued. Maybe because pitch black was so good, maybe because there were scenes lifted directly from other good sci-fi movies, who knows? all i know is that I'm interested.

Imma agree with 3, it probably will be pretty watchable, i mean if i can watch sci-fi original movies on Thursday nights, why not a feature film? I would like to point out some references.
I need a smuggler for a girl - transporter 1
When he's sitting in the dark room and the cops break in - matrix
cage fight - maybe not a reference but i got an x-men/cradle 2 the grave feeling
Snow mobile scene - Triple X with rocket launchers
The cops in weird costumes - chronicles of ridick
Girl stops missile mid explosion - x-men 3
and my favorite, if you pause it at 1:02 when hes looking out a window in a sweatshirt and glasses, anyone who's seen Night Watch should instantly be seeing Anton Gordetsky in that pose.
I'm not afraid to say I enjoyed every movie that this one has referenced, I may not pay for a movie theater ticket, but I'll rent it for sure

Cmon... It's a sci-fi action movie. Since when have those had actual story lines or particularly good acting? It has delicious eye candy, explosions, tricks, and guns. Looks like it might even have boobs. I'm gunna be all over that like Geekologie Writer on a $3 hooker when it comes out.

@Sirus you forgot the invisible-shield-against-massive-proyectile on last frames which could be taken from the anime movie Akira. The scene in the middle of the trailer were the girl shouts before the explosion kind of reminded me of the beginning of Akira as well.
About enjoying Vims films... I once made the error of thinking that if a lowered my expectations I could enjoy Chronicles of Ridick as a pure-action film or just as a long videogame intro. I underestimated how revolting a sensless plot could be.

Well....sci-fi's are definately my favorite genre of film and they are also very rare these days so Im down for seeing one. This might not be "good" but when I think of a good sci-fi I think of the usuals (blade runner, alien/s/3, Sunshine, 2001, Gattaca, etc. etc.) so I dont think it'll be of those caliber but might be entertaining nonetheless. The Blade Runner-looking city scape is cool, but definately a rip-off, and some of the action looks pretty over the top (flipping snow mobiles and shooting rockets 'thanks triple x") but we'll see I guess. Or maybe it was just the great "requiem" music that is being used a lot for trailers these days...it compliments trailers very well and gives the movie a very "epic" feel. I remember when I saw the trailer for sunshine that feature the same tracked and it gave me goosebumps.
The movie might not rock but I'll check it out cause Im down for anything sci-fi.
ps. Liquid...there are a lot of sci-fi movies that have great stories and great acting. Take your head out of your ass.

I don't know. That last shot of the missile blowing up in the girl's face looks pretty cool. Then again, Rachel Weisz pummeling down office cubicles and being sucked out of a window in Constantine was a pretty cool shot too.

That does look like a rehash of every other sci-fi movie. When are you going to go back and direct another movie Vin Diesel? This whole tough guy image is becoming a cliché with all the shitty scripts you are getting.

when a trailer gives away all the twists and turns in30 seconds, you know there is nothing more to the flick , and yeah the re-use of req for a dream soundtrack is definitely a sore point - cant they afford to get a composer or even a sound designer on the job - what is up with kassovitz ffs ...hes just getting worse by the film...
