May 29 2008New 'Star Wars: The Clone Wars of 1996' Stills
Wow. Somehow I hadn't realized quite how stylized Star Wars: The Clone Wars was going to be. And by stylized, I mean in the style of a cut-scene from a Playstation game. And to answer a question a friend recently asked me that I think a lot of people are likely asking: yes, this is seriously going to be released in theaters. More evidence here, thanks to Tytus.

I know, that stuff looks horrible, I mean, everyone knows ILM makes the worst looking CG crap ever. That's why no on in the industry uses them.
Seriously though, I'm shocked at how many people are confused about the style. Did no one ever see the Tartakovsky cartoon? I'll go see this and probably will like it, because I know how to go to the movies and enjoy myself without picking apart every aspect of it and complaining about everything I don't like. Oh, and I'm also smart enough to not see movies that I know I'll just cry about afterwards. Just sayin'.

Why does that jedi look like a freaky egyptian cat made of nightmares?

#1, the Tartakovsky cartoons were good, basically samurai jack in space.

Yeah, good call! ILM Cg DOES rule... TOO BAD THIS IS FARMED OUT TO CHINA. No defending this, its cheap, is a BAD knockoff of Tartakovsky's animation style, and if Lucas had made the 2d style of that as a feature, I could back it. Then again, I'm stoked that Lucas is making a movie in which the style of Thunderbirds puppets are more realistic... there's no delusions that this could be good. He's making it easier to stop adding to the Lucas trust fund.

#5 I don't know where you're getting your facts, but the animation is being produced by ILM in California, and a remote office they own in Singapore. Not exactly China, but good try. Most of the things that ILM produces is a joint effort between the two offices, so I don't know what you were going for right there. Both offices = ILM as a whole.
I don't know how it's a bad knockoff of Genndy's style. His "style" is awkward looking characters and bad fight scenes. They've got the awkward down, and at least from what I've seen from this movie ILM has cleaned up the fighting and the character movements are fluid, instead of using frame-jumping fight sequences.

@ #5:
If you haven't actually watched the trailer yet:

It's actually not bad looking. As far as the China/Singapore thing, usually in the animation world, the bigger companies like ILM have a main office at which their lead designers do the critical work, and then it's shipped out to a satellite office to do the grunt work. That's just how it is, so everything from the Simpsons to Star Wars works like that.
@#6:
I wouldn't describe G.T.'s fight sequences as "bad." They're animated like that to give them a more dynamic and explosive look. They're not beautifully choreographed or highly intricate, but they work. I agree that they've improved upon it in this movie, but it still has the G.T. feel to it.

Oh, and #4, there are no more live action movies in the works right now, but you never know. Here's what you can look forward to/dread in the future:
-Animated movie (this one) sometime late summer/early fall, to launch the new animated series
-Animated series, in the style of this movie
-Live action TV show documenting "the Dark Times," or the span of time between Episodes III and IV, i.e., the building of the Galactic Empire and the hunting of the original jedi, though they haven't talked much about how much of a role jedi will play in this series. They (being Lucas and company) stated that they want the live action series to revolve around minor characters that are unknown at this point, (read: freedom to create completely new stories and content) but there are some cameos of main characters in the works.

you all talk and know nothing. Man, if you are not well informed, just shut up.
This is done by Lucasfilm Animation, and their Singapore unit, with Designs based of the 2d series. this will be an intro to the tv series, since Lucas while editing episodes said that they could release a feature film.
Genndy Tartakovsky could not be involved since he is doing handling the Orphanage, a special effects house he created, famous for Sin City, and his new studio Frederator Films, which first project is a Samurai Jack Movie. he was won 3 Emmys and has been nominated for 11.
