May 22 2008'Dragonball' First Look: Chow Yun Fat as Master Roshi

Even as someone who cares absolutely nothing about Dragonball, I'm pretty astounded by how far this movie is deviating from the source material, when I'm pretty sure only the most devoted fans who will even bother with this. Did they have Chow Yun-Fat make the costume himself out of whatever he could find in his closet in five minutes?

"Well, I got the Hawaiian shirt, but that's about it. I coulda sworn I had some sunglasses in there somew--"

"That's fine. Let's shoot."

"But shouldn't I have a bald cap, at least a goatee?"

"No, this great. Just a Hawaiian shirt pulled over a sweatshirt. You look fantastic--just like the Moshi man. This will be a great movie."

oh naaah cmon...it cant b thad bad...seriously?? at LEAST make him bald....shit thats dreadful...

Ok, I expected some diviations. But fuck me running... this is ridiculous.

On that note.. I'll probably watch it no matter what it looks like.

I certainly don't have a problem with Chow Yun-Fat....or even really that he's got hair...but seriously, couldn't they have sprung for some kind of facial hair :P?

Damn, looks silly, but in Asia, I bet lots of people will see it still, just because many people grew up with the cartoon.... there's a quick intro on the characters in English on youtube, along with cut scenes with Steven Chow directing:

Jesus, its the same as if they got Jake Gyllenhaal to play Harry Potter.
These movie people need to burn in hell.

It looks like they just grabbed Yun-Fat off the street and told him to "here, do some martial arts or something . . . aaaand action!"

I watched this cartoon growing up. Its nice to see that they like Spielberg, lucas and stallone are out to ruin the bits of childhood movies and cartoons I cherished. I remember liking inspector Gadget now whenever I think of it I picture Matthew Broderick. . . well at least he got his. poor bastard is married to an unvaccinated horse.

LMAO. Serously funny mr Writer. Moshi man....HAHAHA! Classic!
PS. I am still vaguely interested in seeing the final outcome of this movie.

That call sheet looks like a big bit of fail.

f*ck me, did they try to get theworst person on the planet for this?!

Yun-Fat is pretty much a shitty actor.

Well, let's be honest with one another, can we? It was never going to be a great movie.

so pissed hes 40 years younger, has full head of hair and no goatee this deserves a FAIL

This is so bad it's actually good. Just like the John Mayer parody vid.

#12.. Try 300 years younger.. And then try shh..

Looks like they're deviating even further from the source material than the terrible old unofficial live action movie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dragon_Ball:_The_Magic_Begins

Master Roshi had hair in DragonBall, which this movie is about.........
The picture of Master Roshi is taken from the DragonBall Z saga, by which time he had lost his hair.........

@Ben:

You are an idiot. Roshi never had hair in the original Dragonball series. Only when goku went back in time when he was training with Kami and he saw Roshi as a young lad did he have hair.

Look I watched the show as a kid. I was addicted to it. And wheni heard about the movie I was kinda pissed off. It was a decent anime show, leave it at that. I also saw the piccolo costume and that sucked just as bad, now I got to see this horible represintation in my favorite old pervert. I don't think so. If the first trailer dose not get me then I will boycot this moive.
