May 30 2008'Disaster Movie' Poster Predicts More 'Meet the Spartans'-Style Belly Laughs

disaster-movie-poster.jpg

Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg are the two mercilessly humorless writers who brought you Meet the Spartans and all of the other [Genre] Movie-titled parody films of the last decade. Now they have another one coming out titled Disaster Movie (the irony of which is too obvious to state). Since they've started coming out with at least one a year since 2006, this comes as little surprise--they're essentially a second, shorter Academy Awards, both serving as joyless ways to remind yourself of the year's films as filtered through cleavage and painful attempts at humor.

But I was a bit taken aback looking at this poster (my exact words were "f***. me.") and learning that their latest attempt is disaster-themed. Wasn't their next stab going to be Goody Two Shoes, based around Superbad and still-unreleased summer films? God, is this a second spoof film they're doing this year? Why would reason allow for that?

Thankfully, I don't think that's the case. The IMDB lists only Disaster Movie as filming, with the threat of several other projects resigned to the trivia section. More likely, Seltzer and Friedberg simply cast their parody net so broadly that a few extra shots of pop culture icons dying in natural disasters allowed for a complete shift in focal point.

I really hate these guys.

please... not another one.

You hate everybody, in all fairness.

I have a very small role in this movie and can confirm that Goody Two Shoes was its filming title, much like Meet The Spartans was called "Hunting & Fishing" while being filmed. It stars Kim Kardashian, Carmen Electra, and Vanessa Minillo. And for what its worth, I will weigh in on Kim Kardashian's ass being as real as can be.

I'm sure they've got another 5 or 6 in the works for 2008 alone. Here's a how-to from the Seltzer/Friedberg school of comedy:

-Take notebook and pencil to any movie that's currently out
-Jot down any elementary school jokes that come to mind while viewing said movie
-Afterwards, add as many pop culture references and internet memes as you can (don't forget to add elementary humor elements to those as well)
-Read through your "script," adding more farts and people falling down if necessary.
-Don't forget to re-use most of your jokes from your previous movies
-Submit and wait for the mindless trolls to buy a ticket

With writing like that, how can you NOT make several a year. It blows my mind that these things are actually successful. These two people are high on my list of persons who need a hard punch in the throat.

I'd say the title is appropriate more than ironic.

I can't wait for a parody film of parody films. Think about it. How meta-awesome would that be?

What?
Oh.

i dont understand you care so much. noboby is making anybody watch them. so why does everyone love complaining about them? its as if people dont even like being aware that the movies exist / might exist... sometimes one can make the argument, 'but if ____ wasn't filming this, then another better movie could be made', but nobody cares what the writers, director, or carmen electra do otherwise. so.... ?

I like the poster - Al Gore is the messiah of the environmental movement. I think they a little sarcastic fun at the expense of Al and this generation's end-of-the-world kind of religion.

"Yawn."

I guess it's fear, mostly. It's not that someone who's working on the project could be doing something else. God knows I'd rather not see anyone who has anything to do with these movies ever work again. It's fear that these movies will continue to be successful. When people in the biz see trash like this making money, they start wondering why their own companies aren't producing films like this. Eventually we could get to a point where half of the local movie theater screens are dedicated to this crap. Even if it never gets there, my local cinema using even one screen for these turds means one less screen that could host other movies that never get nationwide coverage. I'm not exactly an indie film nut, but it makes my heart hurt a little when stuff like that happens. My opinion, so just sayin'.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH I cant take it that there are people that watch this shit.

Worst Movies Ever:
Epic Movie
Kung pow
Date Movie

the cast sounds hot. I'd do all of them and this poster makes me laugh my ass off.

Despite how horrid these types of movies are, I actually like this poster. I mean, at least it's not just a 'group shot' like all the other posters are.

That being said, it'll still probably suck.

The fact that these things continue to get made deeply bothers me. It makes me feel that our culture has lost originality and that youtube has finally risen to conquer us all. I mean, on one hand its almost funny, a movie with no original content, just bad jokes about other movies with topical references with last weeks internet fads and celebrity mockery thrown in... sort of a culture in a blender, if you will.

I just can't believe that people who see and enjoy the zomg parody genre are going to breed. Well, I can, but I don't want to.

They've taken a movie series designed for feeble minded black teenagers and turned it into a series for all retarded people to enjoy! Beautiful.

its cause idiotic kids go to movies like this and make them number 1 at the boxoffice in their opening weekend. since they cost so little to make, the company makes alot of money (in relation to the cost of the movie).
this tells hollywood that if you slap something together with references to current pop culture you dont need to try to make good movies.

it brings the whole buisness down a few pegs.

these pricks have this movie coming out on the third anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, and as a person who lost everything that day I am righteously pissed off. My only wish is that Aaron Seltzer and Jason Friedberg die. I don't care i how I just think they owe us that much.

Take away the tag lines and the poster isn't a bad idea...but sweet tinkerbell jesus what are they thinking making this ...X_X

NOOOOOOOOO

god fucking Damnit

A friend of mine was playing the "What would I rather be doing than watch the Sex and the City movie" with his girlfriend. I would have to say I would rather watch that twice than sit through the trailer for this POS.

I have seen "Meet the Spartans" on MilitarysoulmateDOTcom , some funs upload this movie on that site. god fucking Damnit as you said!
