May 23 2008New 'Street Fighter' Shot: Chun-Li Looks Nothing Like You Remember
Why is this being made again? I mean, seriously. I know I've asked the same thing when I heard news of Shrek VI and 4 Fast 4 Furious and other ludicrous and largely-undesirable movies, but that was just me expressing my impotent rage--like how I'll scream "Why, God, WHY?!" when I learn I have a terminal illness, even though I already know the reason why (unhealthy living, various sins). But I really mean it this time. Why? Why would anyone choose to make a Street Fighter movie now?
I can understand the original attempt, which was hurriedly cashing in on the insane popularity of the video game in the early '90s, but surely interest has waned a bit over the last 15 years. Hasn't it? And it isn't like the game has some amazing storyline--I remember it being some people fighting for various reasons, like avenging a death, or proving sumo wrestling is OK--and the above shot (and this previous one) make it pretty apparent they're throwing the character design out the window, so what's left? A few names, the notion of fighting outdoors, a glimmer of nostalgia, and the ever-present shadow of a jump-kicking Jean-Claude Van Damme? What's the point?
I honestly don't know why someone thinks this is a good idea. If we've become so desperate for ideas that we're resorting to old video game franchises, let's at least move on to some we haven't tried yet. An Alvin and the Chipmunks-style Sonic the Hedgehog seems obvious enough. Let's get to it.

She doesn't look like chun Li at all.
Maybe the haircolor.. but come on, at least they could try to keep the looks of the characters. I mean, who else, besides gamers, will be watching this!?

Oh yeah, the Shrek series; multiple Oscar nominee, Oscar winner, and combined gross of almost two billion dollars, I can see why someone would be surprised they're making a fourth, fifth, or sixth one. "Largely undesirable" indeed.
That being said, I'm confused as to why they're making another Street Fighter movie -- the first one was possibly the worst video game movie of all time. Damn thing's on par with Uwe Boll's movies.

Despite what you might think about SF not being "popular" anymore or having died down a lot.....you are wrong my friend...so wrong. Street Fighter has one of the biggest followings in fighting games to date and is still played in tournaments (look up Evolution ighting game tourny) every year. My buddies and I still play SF3: Third Strike to this day...we even go up to this place here in Atlanta that has an actual Third Strike arcade and sit there and own kids all night. Trust me...we are not the only ones...Street Fighter is HUGE.
And just like Andy said...SF4 is in the works.

I guess movie makers are just catching on with comic book/animation trend. All the Marvel series have done really good, why not street fighter? I would watch the movie.

Seriously, why do they keep casting WHITE PEOPLE as Asians? They only had 1.2 billion actual Chinese people to choose from in the casting.

i dont think its a bad idea. if you dont want to watch another street fighter movie dont. doesnt mean youll stop playing the game. it just means your thinking about going to the movie and maybe paying to see this movie fail. which it might but still. your not paying to make it. your just paying to watch or you can download it. i dont like grammer. if you wouldnt make a "SF" movie, it doesnt mean the person next to wont.

Kristin Kreuk is a small woman, it will be interesting to see her tone up for this movie and preform martial arts. Long gone are the days of Edgemont (great show).

uhhhh, i'd watch 11 or 100 street fighter movies. i think recashing with remakes of good movies is awful. but making another bad movie about a video game i like is satisfying as hell.

actually she is asian.. her mom is chinese and she is fine!!! I think she's gonna make a perfect Chun Li. Hopefully they don't screw up the other characters though.. VanDamage sucked as Guile.. and Miklo from Blood in Blood out as Ken? haha.

I far as I know, this movie is dealing with her back story, trying to catch her father's killer. Now, I don't know about the rest of you, but I think it would look ridiculous if she was going around avenging her father in her blue qipao or even her blue unitard from the Alpha series. Maybe she'll wear it later in the movie.
Now that being said, the movie could be crap...

i think what adfdf meant is that they should cast people who are not only asian but actually look asian. i for one just don't understand why they cast people that are half of the ethnicity of the actual character. if chun li is a full blooded asian (and by full blooded i mean is and definitely looks asian from afar) then cast a full blooded asian

I think for the most part the people involved in game or any other media to movie moves dont care about the demo that their aiming for. If any of you saw the DOA, Mortal Combat, Mario or other horrible translations you could assume that Ryu will be played by a black midget that speaks Portugese.
