Sure, the dismal events of 28 Days Later painted a grim vision of a future overrun by a spreading zombie plague, but man, wouldn't it also suck to be blind? Fernando Meirelles offers just such an experience, placing Julianne Moore and Mark Ruffalo in a world where a sudden blindness-inducing virus threatens the population's retinas. It asks a chilling question: how will Moore sell Revlon cosmetics if no one can see her ageless, near-translucent skin? I have no idea.

As you'd expect from the director of City of God and The Constant Gardner, it looks both beautiful and frightening while managing to steer clear of becoming a cautionary tale of over-masturbation. I suggest watching.

how 'bout a "day of the trifids" remake?

and also...first! in your face, losers.

It looks like the role of the man eating plant will be played by Mark Ruffalo. That guy is totally convincing as a man who isn't terrified of vagina.

Meh. Good premise (even if it's been done before), but Julianne Moore ruins every movie she's in since Boogie Nights and even then she was barely tolerable. I mean she's not horrible; just the same and mediocre in every film.

There are two rape scenes in the movie, at least one of which involves Julianne Moore's character.

Rape scenes? And your point is...? Is that suppose to titillate people, or serve as a deterrent?

The premise may have been "done before", but the film is based on a book that won the Nobel Prize for literature, so it's not your run of the mill horror movie.

I know the screenwriter (yes, I'm bragging) and I know he originally wanted the female lead to be Cate Blanchett. (And to his dismay, Brad Pitt and Keanu Reeves were VERY interested in the lead male roles, very early on.)

This book was brilliant but extremely depressing. I hope the movie does it some justice.

I'll definitely see it because it seems interesting, I just think they could have worked on a better title... "Blindness" just seems sort of weak, like it'll be followed by films such as "Deafness" and "Arthritis", sort stands up there with such bad titles as "Autism : The MUSICAL!"
