Mar 24 2008Maggie Gyllenhaal Promises She's Not Katie Holmes
We (geeks) all know that the hare-faced Maggie Gyllenhaal has taken over the role of Rachel Dawes in The Dark Knight--a part previously held by the Cruise puppet-bride, Katie Holmes--but Maggie wants you to know more than that. Namely, that her possession of a human soul will allow for a different, perhaps more-lifelike, performance than Holmes. As she more gently told Superhero Hype:
Despite being the new girl in the franchise, Gyllenhaal was gracious towards her predecessor when asked whether her portrayal was inspired by Holmes' version or would be completely different. "I think she's a wonderful actress and I really admired the work that she did in the first Batman, but I don't think it would have worked if I tried to imitate her. I think the only way to do it is to do it like myself," Gyllenhaal told us.
Obviously it's better Gyllenhaal is bringing a different performance to the role, but part of me wishes she had, as she suggested, tried to imitate Holmes' performance. I'm just curious how she'd go about it. I imagine it being something like an hour-long shrug--both impressive and incredibly boring.

I agree with the spammer in comment 1. She does make for a cuter gold-digger for Bruce Wayne's deap pockets!

She looks like the Joker. The Jack Nicholson version.

I'd rather look at Katie Holmes.

Is it just me , or is she starting to look like a cheap knock-off of Kirsten Dunst?

Is it just me or does Katie Holmes actually have an a$$?

Why did they bring back her worthless character anyway? She served no purpose. Meh.
