Over 60 years after he shoved a defenseless lady in a wheelchair down some stairs, actor Richard Widmark died Monday. The Pickup on South Street star, nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in Kiss of Death, was 93. Details of the death are still scarce (I presume his being a nonagenarian played a role), but more on his life and roles can be found here.

I haven't seen any of his movies, but I'll never forget him as the host of The CBS Radio Mystery Theatre (not to mention the star of countless other radio dramas).. you'll be missed, Richard.

He and Scofield were great.

"nonagenarian"? Ha-ha, nice... Me like big words!

Go in peace, we'll always have your great movies to remember you by and there were so many. I miss Hollywood when it had great respectful actors. Not like the shit we have now. Someone should kill Will Farrell

A greatly underrated actor. So many great roles...Pickup on South Street, Panic in the Streets, Night and the City, Madigan, hell, even The Alamo, which is redeemed of its sanctimony by his gritty portrayal of Jim Bowie. A gracious actor, and a gentle man.

Pickup on South Street was pretty cool and I've never seen Kiss of Death, but Night and the City is quite possibly my favorite American film noir, in no small part because Widmark is freakin' awesome in that movie! RIP Richard.

I had the privilege of meeting him when he worked in England in 1972.
He was a gracious, modest man - as well as a great actor.
I still have a scrapbook started in 1954 after I saw 'Prize of Gold' - I was 12!
Although out of sight for so long, he was never out of mind. I hope his passing was as gentle and peaceful as he was.

I honestly thought he would go on forever. A fantastic actor and one of a kind- I wish I could find his films on dvd- have loved him since I was a child but at 44 I only remember the westerns and war films were he always died- Id love to see him evil dark side. God bless- a true American star.
