Feb 20 2008'Wolverine' Adds Reynolds, Kitsch, Black Eyed Pea
It's starting to sound like Wolverine may be the latest superhero movie to fall victim to a classic case of "too many spices in the stew." And while I don't think that's an actual saying, I think you get the point: there's a fucking ton of characters being added to this movie, making it more and more likely this will turn into a Batman and Robin scenario (i.e., a terrible movie).
Fox has added three more superheroes to "X-Men Origins: Wolverine," with Ryan Reynolds set to play Deadpool, "Friday Night Lights" regular Taylor Kitsch to star as Gambit and hip-hop artist will.i.am joining the cast as John Wraith.Liev Schreiber, Danny Huston and Lynn Collins round out the cast as Victor Creed/Sabretooth, Col. William Stryker and Kayla Silver Fox, respectively.
Admittedly, Reynolds as the wise-cracking Deadpool is spot-on casting, Kitsch at least looks the part of Gambit, and will.i.am will surely come in handy when the film needs an inspirational theme song that mixes celebrity endorsement with an unlistenable quality. But really, are they just filling out the toy line at this point? At this rate, I fully expect a scene where Wolverine jumps in a manhole, justifying the "Sewer Swimmin' Wolvie" action figure.

Not really. If this is going to show when Wolverine was part of a government funded black ops unit made up of mutants, then there's going to need to be other mutant characters, and Gambit is the only one not really associated with that stuff in the comics, while Deadpool and Wraith were both in Weapon X. I know the film's meant to be about Wolverine, but he was basically the star of the X-Men films, and those had a much bigger cast.

Boy, Deadpool? That guy is so irreverent. I hope he constantly breaks the fourth wall with his patented, off-the-cuff zingers.

Please keep us updated on who will be cast as Stryfe and Onslaught in this clusterfuck.

Deadpool will be good. They had been talking to him about a deadpool movie anyway so, i guess they just decided this is the way to bring him in since he was also a weapon x test subject. But hes great, I could give a shit about some of the people. But the ones they have put in are the more... I guess well known weapon x test subjects. There were a shit load more though, i can only hope they don't continue adding them...

Only thing is though.... gambit had absolutely nothing to do with weapon x. They are just putting him in because they couldnt get him in the other movies. Which is a bad idea just so they can apeese the people who want to see him in a film. I would like to also, but I don't want them just randomly throwing in characters because people want to see them. Lets go ahead and throw in Mojo, Sauron, Strong Guy, The Shi'ar, Starjammers, Cable, Spiral, Arcade, and fuck it lets just do the messiah complex storyline in the middle of the movie too.

Nathan: It's not known what Gambit will be doing in the film. I just figure Deadpool and Wraith will be in Weapon X because it's the closer fit to the source material. Gambit could be someone Wolverine meets when on the run or something.

Well, Gambit is supposed to be an heir, clone, son, whatever of Mr. Sinister. And Mr. Sinister has been part of every major genetic effort for a century and a half, including Weapon X. So perhaps that will be the connection.

#6-Omega Red is not part of Weapon X, but he was part of a Russian super soldier program. I don't remember what the name was. The core group of 4 first gen Weapon X-ers were Wolverine, Sabretooth, Silver Fox, and Maverick. John Wraith was a back up black dude guy. Deadpool was in a later program to try and duplicate the success of Wolverine. I'm a nerd.
