Val Kilmer has signed on to replace Will Arnett as the voice of KITT in NBC's veiled Ford Mustang commercial, Knight Rider. Problems with Arnett came about when GMC--whom the Arrested Development star has worked with as the less-literal voice of their trucks--realized he would be schilling Ford products through a weak action plot.
So why is Val Kilmer such a poor replacement? Do you not remember his work in Batman Forever? (It took me an embarrassingly long time to figure out how to embed this, so please listen.)

i think the reason given is totall bullshit. They realize he's been doing commercial for years ONLY NOW? C'mon, that was spinning by their PR. Maybe his voice just wasn't right. I mean, every time he will say "michael!", it will bring back Arrested Development memories

William Daniels (aka "Pheeny" from Boy Meets World) was the original KITT - good choice guys...
Arnett would have made a great sarcastic sidekick/ scene stealer, just like he does in everything and we (ok, I) would have simply been waiting for him to admit "I've made a huge mistake." Seems like he's admitted it a little earlier than I expected.
Kilmer isn't the best choice, but not the worst either. If Clancy Brown did it all I would think of is Lex Luthor from all the Bruce Timm created cartoons. Although his voice would be good.

What the shit everyone is avoiding the obvious, the voice should be a sultry, powerful, womans voice, so then everyone that watches the show can get there rocks off by fantasizing about KITT's tailpipe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Are you making fun of Kilmer's voice or the terrible dialog?? I don't think a bad script has anything do with an actor's voice.
