Feb 4 2008Venom Stand-Alone Movie Heading to X-Treme Theatres
In the same way Spider-Man is the epitome of the radiation-centric superheroes of the '60s, the hero's villainous counterpart, Venom, is an embodiment of everything that was wrong with comics in the late-'80s/early-'90s. It was an era of parachute pants and painfully-acceptable neon, a time when most ideas involved taking something that existed and injecting a shot of "totally xtreme". And so, Spider-Man's greatest foe became, obviously, this really awesome Spider-Man with giant teeth, more muscles, excessive tongue, and crazy black shit flying off him. He was already a pointless addition to the last Spider-Man film, and a movie focusing on the character is about as necessary as the Vanilla Ice movie was, but less timely. But when has that ever stopped Hollywood? From IESB:
Venom fans rejoice, Marvel is moving forward with a new stand alone film, yep you heard right, Venom is coming back to the big screen. We've confirmed that "the studio" has met recently with several "A list writers" about a spin-off film.
Don't forget to wear your sweetest Rollerblades to opening night. And feel free to adamantly agree/disagree in the comments.

I adamantly agree/disagree.
And I'm not sure where my rolerblades are, but I will go look for them.
2. mgroves - February 4, 2008 2:52 PM
But will Foreman be in it?

What about a Carnage movie? Because unlike Venom, he was X-TREME TO THE MAX *rides skateboard away*

I love Venom, sweet.

I dunno about anyone else but I think venom was the greatest super-villain of all time. True he wasn't that bright, but he was the perfect negative to spiderman, a yin to his yang so to speak.
Although he's my favorite super-villain, the idea of his own movie is ridiculous. They tried it in Spiderman 3 and sandman ruined the whole movie, move onto the Lizard already.

If one villain is good, three villains will be great.
They should pretend that Spiderman 3 never happened. I approve of the Venom movie.

Agree with number #3. Apparently the column writer has never heard of Carnage as he was indeed the Xtreme version of Venom, while Venom was just an evil super powered version of Spidey. OHHH! Xtreme diss!

Jesus, IWatchStuff Writer. None of your entries are any fun to read any more, because you have something predictably snide and bitch to say about EVERYTHING. You're such a complainer that it makes me even wonder if you like movies. Seriously, is there anything you like? You should take a page from the Geekologie or even the Superficial writer.

Only a retarded drunken douchenipple would call that character their favorite, or even one of their top 3,000. I agree with you completely, as I often do.

*adamantly disagrees*
Tom - I can't believe you'd sling shit when you actually used "retarded drunken douchenipple" as an insult
Caesar - I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees it that way now! The only thing that ever gets praise on this site anymore are the indie flavor films that look like shit. I love to see humor about these movies, but it only ever boils down to him just hating everything now.

Hey Caesar, that's the reason most of us come to this site. The blogger doesn't abide by the fucking trash coming out of the business end of Hollywood. If a mainstream film is good, IWatchStuff will admit it, otherwise I enjoy that they are skeptical of this barren wasteland of remakes and sequels.

Jeez people, lay off the man. Why does he complain about all the movies out there at the moment? Because they're all steaming piles of shit catering to the lowest common denominator. I blame every last one of you who are creaming your panties over the venom movie. You're all to blame for the Alvin and Chipmunk movies, the countless pointless sequels to horribly conceived situations, the slapstick romantic comedies. Don't come crying to this site when you've got nothing but "Owe! My Balls!" playing at the cineplex. Though you will probably be too busy choking on your feeding tubes to cry about anything. God forbid you spend your money on an "indie flavor film that looks like shit," that actually has something clever to say, some new style to present. Keep throwing your money away on poorly animated animals farting in Carmen Electra's face.

I can only assume that they're going to completely reinvent the character to apologize for the atrocities they committed upon him in Spidey 3.
Or maybe they intend to keep him the same (the same dorky actor kid, the same stupid voice, the same inaccurate look), in which case I guess they're not apologizing, but stressing the fact that they can do anything they want.
I don't care either way. After Spidey 3, I never want to see another superhero (or villain) movie again.

What? Someone has an opinion different than mine?
*grumble grumble* ATTACK!
Seriously, why is it some people can only handle opinions when it's their own? Oh, and if you seriously don't want to come to this site anymore, leave. Sticking around to remind us you're leaving is just whining.
Unless they include Spidey somehow, this may just turn into another Catwoman.

@ #8; the IWatchStuff writer is the epitome of a critical critic, and he's almost always fucking right. The geek and super writers aren't reviewing anything really, or being critics. I reckon he's a great judge of films, and anything that warrants his praise x-tremely rawks.

yay! my son and i love love love venom. I can't wait! and i guess it will be done by disney now?? o.O but either way i am looking forward to it. i hope spidey is at least in it... not just uber edie brock-ness. and PLEASE don't cast topher grace as the fucking lead again! blaaaah! not my pick no thank you. and i would LOVE to see carnage. ooh!

ahh come on you bags of douche!! .. dont tell me no one here knows anything about venom!?!?? he got his own comic series after his appearance in the amazing spiderman.. it was called the lethal protector, and he tore up san francisco.. like spidey he became a good guy (quasi) but unlike spides, he would dismember the bad dudes that dared hurt the homeless of good ol' san fran. also read the epic 'maximum carnage' .. all y'all should read these to know how awesome venom is and not just get your goofy opinions from the atrocious raimi disaster, or the cartoon for lil kids or from your own terrible and goofy minds.

As long as he's eating spleens and not being played by Foreman, I'm in. It'll probably be terrible, but, yeah. I'm in.
