Feb 1 2008'The Grand' Trailer Might Not Redeem David Cross

grand-trailer-cross.jpg

With its cast of mostly-respected actors and comedians (we'll forget that Rush Hour-director Bret Ratner is in it), I really wanted to like The Grand. I hoped it would be the definitive skewering of the sunglass-wearing, cowboy-hatted chip-stack of arrogance that is the world of professional poker. Unfortunately, from the looks of the trailer, it won't be.

You'd think Werner Herzog as a crazy German who must kill something each day would be funny enough, but somehow this and every other caricature fall flat in their over-eccentricities. They're somehow so wacky they're dull. Hopefully the full film plays out a little better, at least for the sake of David Cross. This was meant to be his post-Chipmunk redemption.

And sorry for slow posting today. I have one of those headaches from medicine commercials, where parts are pulsing with pain light.

I have to give it a chance. That guy who played in Arrested Development was so HAWT as a doctor-turned-lousy actor.

David Cross has to be the most un-funny guy in Hollywood. I think my proctologist, with his entire fist up my ass, is funnier.

I watched the trailer. Jeebus, can he try any harder to be funny?

It's so forced, unfunny, and it makes me queasy to watch that pretentious loser.

Go back to Atlanta and get a job shoveling dog shit for Michael Vick.

Are you serious? David Cross is one of the funniest people out there...granted he has done his share of shitty movies.

Have you actually watched Mr. Show? One of the best skit shows of all time. His standup is great too.

I love David Cross, Hes one of my favorite comedians. The chipmunks though??? Come on man. Pussydoodles the movie, thats way better.

I don't know what he ever did to the guy who wrote comment #2, but what a prick. I understand not liking David Cross if all you've ever seen from him is his stand-up (which is an acquired taste... personally, I hate it), but as a writer and actor he's always good. Mr. Show and Arrested Development... fantastic! And he and Bob Odenkirk are working together on a new show for HBO, which makes me believe in TV again.
One really bad thing is that one of the screenwriters for this movie wrote Inspector Gadget and Elektra (YIKES!), but since many of the scenes are improvised, I still have a little faith. David Cross was really funny the couple of times he was on Celebrity Poker, back when it was hosted by Phil Gordon (who apparently is in this movie) along with Dave Foley. And anyway, It's hard to judge a comedy by its trailer. The people who edit movies down to trailers love to hack up comedies so they look like 30-second Farrelly brothers movies.

Sorry emily, #5, I think you're a prick because you LIKE him. Hows that for logic? In your face, sucka!

Cross is no better, or funnier for that matter, than Will Farrell. They both do the same shtick. Put Cross in funny clothes or paint him blue, i.e. Arrested Development or Farrell running around in his underpants and I guess there are some that think that's funny.

Cross has benefited by tricking talented people like Bob Odenkirk to hang around him. I have no idea who writes for him but his stand-up blows and he should be ashamed of himself for his comments on the American military. Not much troop love there.

If you need evidence of his abrasive and offensive real life character view his seminal performance on Dinner for Five, He's lucky Molly Shannon didn't stick a fork in his eye.

He looks familiar. Oh, I saw his profile with hot & sexy photos on wealthycupid.com, where celebrities, beauty queens and wealthy singles hook up. The photos are not verified yet but the profile looks sincere, attractive and sexy. Maybe sometimes they really need a soul mate rather than a rich buddy. It's said Charlie Sheen has found some young and beautiful girls there. LOL.

I am reading this right? There are people who don't find cross or farrell funny? I feel genuine pity for them.

Oh wait sorry I'm slow, sarcasm, hehe I almost thought they were for real.

There are people out there who don't like David Cross? Wow... they must be big Dane Cook fans. Probably Avenged Sevenfold, too. Yikes.

Anyway, this movie looks dumb. But does David Cross, who played the inventor of the "smart toys" in the film Small Soldiers, or a teacher or something in She's The Man really need redemption? The guy needs to eat. The guy has always done movies for paychecks, so why is everyone freaking over the Alvin and the Chipmunks thing?

wendy, #8 and 9, please pity me because I don't think either Cross or Farrell are genuinely funny. They both can act funny and can deliver lines though, I'll give them that.

Really Wendy, how many times can Farrell run around in his underwear and still keep it fresh? (oops, sorry about the vision I just created.) But at least Will Ferrell has the sense to not appear in public without good writers and massive preparation. He and Cross are nothing but line deliverers, aka "actors". They do it far better than I can do it, but are not funny people, in my pitifully opinion.

David Cross - Not funny
Will Farrell - Sometimes funny
Bob Odenkirk - Always funny
Dane Cook - He's trying very hard to be funny
Dick Chaney - Saddam Hussein, Adolf Hitler and he are in a hot-tub in hell....you know how it goes. Some say his punchline delivery is to die for.

Anexio - Not funny
