Feb 8 2008Scorsese Planning Bob Marley Doc, Mon
Following up his documentaries on Bob Dylan and The Rolling Stones, Martin Scorsese will reportedly direct a film on the late Bob Marley:
Martin Scorsese, Steve Bing's Shangri-La Entertainment and international sales agent Fortissimo Films will reteam for the helmer's next musically themed effort -- a yet-to-be-titled documentary about legendary reggae star Bob Marley.Trio were behind the helmer's Rolling Stones docu "Shine a Light," which opened the Berlin Film Festival on Thursday. Tuff Gong Pictures and Shangri-La are producing the pic, which has been authorized by Marley's family. Docu is set for release on Feb. 6, 2010, on what would have been Marley's 65th birthday.
This news nearly confirms my theory that Scorsese has been using dorm room posters as his documentary inspiration. If his next film covers Dave Matthews Band, Scarface, or a really hot girl in a bikini, then we'll know for certain.

The only problem with such a Bob Marely movie would be all the irritating reggae in the soundtrack.

Also: Two topics with pictures of guys with dreads in a row? Where is the Adam Duritz post?

Reggae is better elevator music than what's currently being played. I hope they are going to include Marley's white parents in the film.

I am just happy a movie about Bob is going to hit mainstream. Everyone thinks he's just for stoners, but his music was the peoples music and everyone needs to hear his message.

#4: uh my parents (straight) listen to bob, the rather straight coffeeshop I go to every morning on my way to work plays bob constantly... he's *very* accepted by the mainstream already... a movie now seems a bit too late. Why not a movie on some more honest to goodness jamaican innovators like Lee Perry or Prince Far I? enough of this watered down tourist crap that marley made...

Nobody can deny that he was an interesting character and that his story is an interesting one to tell and to discover.
