Feb 13 2008'Pineapple Express' R-Rated Trailer Good Even Non-Stoned
The stoner-buddy-action-comedy genre is not, inherently, a good one. When someone likes weed enough to write an entire movie about being stoned, there's an implication that they were most likely stoned while writing it, meaning there's a good chance the jokes are only funny when stoned. (e.g., in stoned reality, it's fucked up how birds can fly! In reality reality, birds: not fucked up.)
I have no evidence whether or not Superbad writers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were stoned while writing Pineapple Express, but after seeing this trailer, I can safely say it doesn't matter. It pretty much looks really, really good--funny, action-filled, and includes that laugh where you just make a noise. Along with producer Judd Apatow, these guys had already proven their talent, but bringing along indie-favorite David Gordon Green for directorial duties has added a level of naturalism reminiscent of vintage Ivan Reitman.
Highly recommended for viewing, and it's below the cut. (Thanks to everyone who sent this.)

I read this post and kept waiting for the snark, and then I watched the trailer maybe thinking that sarcasm would be self-evident. But this actually does look like a reasonably good movie.
I didn't know you guys covered movies non-ironically.

What's this "pot" stuff people keep making movies about? Is it good?

Franco was "interviewed" in the E whatever show, in the movie. He also pretended to freak out in the DVD's extras, while "audiotioning" for Seth's part.
Anyway, if you have the Superbad DVD, it has a sneak peak(the entire scene when Franco tells Seth about the new weed. Where at one point he compares it to god's vagina. That one). It's on the DVD in easily rippable form, so you can probably find it on youtube.
I was surprised to see all the action though. Anyone think it's wierd these guy's movies are still good? I mean, since when did a production team have such a long streak? Maybe i just don't pay attention to producers enough and every good movie ever was actually produced by 1 of the same 5 guys.

Thanks for the update that a lot of those people were in Freaks and Geeks. I totally didn't know. I'm especially retarded because on the poster for 40 year old virgin, the trailer and poster for knocked up, trailer for superbad, and even the trailer/poster for Dewey Cox, Freaks and Geeks was referenced like "from the director who brought you Freaks and Geeks" etc.
Thanks for the news flash guys, because you'd have to be legally retarded not to know that by the 5TH FUCKING MOVIE they've done.
Anyone know the song in it?
