Feb 28 2008'Get Smart' Trailer Earns an Anger Downgrade

The latest offering in the Nick-At-Nite-programming-turned-broad-comedy genre, Get Smart, has a new trailer. Like in the previous trailers, it still looks bland and uninspired, relying on its impressive cast to pull off weak slapstick gags, but enough works that I'm willing to downgrade my anger level from fuming to annoyed ambivalence. My respect for the original series makes me want them to prove me wrong and make a decent film, but I'm also terribly fearful that might lead to a Green Acres movie (starring Will Ferrell and Paris Hilton?).

It gets + 5 in my book for using The Hives.

I'm still jerking off to those Princess Diaries movies on the daily, seeing Anne Hathaway in some mod British tweed might just make my boner explode.

I would go see your green acres remake - if they really played up the campy-ness of it, it might actually be pretty funny. But then again, that's pretty much what her "real life" show was, and that was pretty bad. OK, never mind. I'm going to stick with my original plan of never watching anything with paris hilton in it.

That is the best idea I've heard in a long time. In the remake of Green Acres I'm assuming you mean for skanky no talent Paris to play the Pig?? Arnold? I'm sure we could make it a girl just for Paris. And while you're doing that, you can give Lohan the lead and let me know where it's being shot, cause we could arrange for some gunfire or something to take place. How bout a bomb? That would take care of 3 people I have no use for, (Sorry Will, but I can't handle anymore of your stupid inane comedies).

In that one scene after swinging into the building with Anne on his back, Steve Carell pretty much nailed the Don Adams impersonation, no?

I don't know how this guy got so far inside Hollywood movies, cause I knew he sucked since i saw 40 yr old virgin.

@ 6. Steve Carell is a pretty good actor, great at nailing the "awkward" moment. So he has been given a lot of comedy roles, even if they call for slapstick rather than his more obscure acting style. He might be funny in this, but I doubt it; so I'm gonna keep watch office reruns instead.

So, I'm not trying to be a dick, but what exactly made the original show so much better? As far as I can recall, it was mostly hammy acting and slapstick too. Not that that's a bad thing, I love the show myself. I think if this movie fails, it will be because we've all grown more sophisticated as we age and as the genre ages not because of movie's inability to be faithful to the source material.

The trailer made me laugh at least twice, from the "I didn't think he'd lift you so high" to the kid and mom in the van. Both are elements you wouldn't find in the original series. All the other jokes in the trailer were copied from the original show and they all fell flat. The only thing that will save this movie now is a quick pace, but the trailer makes it seem sluggish.

Green Acres could be a great film, but you should cast Steve Martin and Halle Berry, with Will Ferrell as Mr. Haney.

I can understand comparing Will Farrell To Steve Carell, but how on Earth could you compare Paris Hilton to Anne Hathaway?! She is a terrific actress, and you compare her to that sociopathic socialite?
