Jan 24 2008'Watchmen' Storyboards Similar to Comic Panels
While many directors are reluctant to let audiences into the world of their film until it's completed, Watchmen director Zack Snyder seems intent on proving that he's not f***ing up the cherished works of Alan Moore--at least not too much. His latest cry of "See? See? I'm being faithful!" comes in the form of his storyboards, which he's posted on the official blog, along with comparisons to the original. You can put to rest your fears that Rorschach falling to the street would stray too far from the comic. He still hits trash cans! Whew!
One more under the cut.

WHAT!?!? I hope nobody actually got PAID to storyboard this thing. Hell, if sitting around tracing random comic book cells is a job, sign me up!

I'm sorry, but I think WATCHMEN is overrated.

I can't wait for the boring photos of Nighthawk standing around pointing at stuff in his plastic looking costume, or for whoever is playing Ozymandias to top himself in Ashley Olsen's house.

Panel for panel loyalty is not what this movie needs. Like "V for Vendetta," a lot of the particulars have become dated. However, the story's central points still stand. I'm particularly interested in how the climax is going to be handled.

Watchmen is not overrated. It is a work of pure genius. One of my favorite novels now.

Why is it that graphic artists like Alan Moore and Frank Miller get their stories retold in painful, panel-by-panel accuracy, while authors of regular old books (you know, the kind that adults besides us nerds - no offense, me - actually take seriously in the real world) get completely ripped to pieces and glued back together with awful "artistic liberties" when turned into a film? It's stupid. They should either start retelling the novels/short stories half as accurately or stop being so bloody careful with the comic books (yes, I said comic books).

Bobeyo-
I think part of it is that comic books are already a visual medium, while the narrative of books need to be reintrerpretted to tell the story visually. We already know how things are supposed to look in the comic, and people get uppity when things are changed.
I do share your frustration with the gutting of novels to make them easily palatable films you don't need to think about too hard. There are some good and loyal adaptations out there, and also ones that only change what they need to to make the story work as a film (all but the last five minutes of "The Mist" for example).

I hate it as much as the next geek when film makers do a hatchet job on well-loved source material, but really, what is the point of such a slavish reconstruction? Just read the dang book!

Yeah, watchmen is overrated. Although relatively well written. And METAL GEAR SOLID MOVIE, you need to go to the library. Get out of the damn house. Stop watching TV, no more video games, and get yourself some real life experiences.
